An investment of R$ 25 million will ensure the installation of a federal campus of the Instituto Federal Catarinense in Mafra, a city in Santa Catarina with 55,000 inhabitants. The authorization for the start of the works was signed by the Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, with resources from the New PAC.

The new campus in Mafra is expected to offer up to 1,400 vacancies in technical, higher, and vocational training courses, with the start of the first classes scheduled for 2026 in a provisional headquarters, while the permanent structure is built. The expansion also includes another unit in Campos Novos and is part of the plan that will bring the Federal Network to reach 792 campuses throughout the country.

According to the Ministry of Education, each new campus of the IFC in Santa Catarina has an investment of R$ 25 million, totaling resources for construction and academic structure.

Of this total, R$ 15 million are allocated for the construction of physical infrastructure and R$ 10 million for the purchase of equipment and furniture.

The MEC has already transferred R$ 2 million to each unit for the installation of construction sites, a necessary step to prepare the terrain and organize the start of construction.

With this, Mafra and Campos Novos are advancing in the first phases of the rollout schedule for the new campuses.

IFC Campus and Vacancy Offer in Mafra

The forecast is that the campus in Mafra will serve up to 1,400 students, integrating technical courses, higher courses, and vocational training courses.

The new unit is expected to increase access to professional and technological education in the region, bringing young people and workers closer to training related to market demands.

With the investment of R$ 25 million, the permanent structure of the campus will be implemented in stages throughout the construction.

In the meantime, the institution is preparing the initial offer of classes in a temporary building starting in 2026.

Expansion of the Federal Network in Santa Catarina and Brazil

When announcing the authorization for Mafra and Campos Novos, Minister Camilo Santana emphasized that the new campuses are part of the expansion of the Federal Network of Professional, Scientific, and Technological Education.

The plan foresees more than 100 new units throughout Brazil, with a total investment of R$ 2.5 billion from the New PAC.

In addition to the creation of new campuses, the federal government has also allocated R$ 1.4 billion to consolidate and expand the infrastructure of existing federal institutes.

These resources should prioritize student restaurants, libraries, sports courts, laboratories, and new classrooms, reinforcing services considered essential for the retention and success of students.

Construction Schedule and Start of Classes in 2026

According to the rector of IFC, Rudinei Kock Exterckoter, the construction sites are already being set up in areas designated for the new campuses.

The institution aims to start the first classes in 2026, in a temporary headquarters in Mafra, while the construction of the permanent headquarters moves forward.

The phased installation of the campus allows students to gain faster access to the Federal Network, while the complete structure is finalized.

The expectation is that, with the investment of R$ 25 million and support from the New PAC, Mafra consolidates its role on the map of professional education in Santa Catarina.
