Canadian Authorities Approved BP’s Plans to Drill a Well at the Aspy D-11 Well, Off the Coast of Nova Scotia.
BP will use Seadrill’s West Aquarius drilling rig to drill a secondary well away from the original well. The equipment will not be moving position to the deviated well. The well is located approximately 330 kilometers southeast of Halifax, Nova Scotia. The same surface location and infrastructure (including the wellhead) of Aspy D-11 will be used for the deviated well (Aspy D-11A). However, instead of continuing to drill vertically, the drilling will slightly angle to one side, BP stated.
The lower portion of the Aspy D-11 well where the deviation is being cemented and plugged, and preparations are underway to begin the lateral deviation.

A 500-meter security exclusion zone is positioned around the West Aquarius, where vessels outside the Project are prohibited. The exclusion zone will be monitored by the support vessel, Horizon Star (call sign: CFA2459).
The British oil company resumed drilling operations at the Aspy D-11 well in late July after having stopped earlier due to the discovery of an underwater leak. Repairs and integrity testing have since been completed, and it was determined that the cause of the leak was a loose connection of the riser reinforcement line.
