After Major Discovery of a New Prospect in the Barreirinhas Sedimentary Basin in Maranhão, the Company is Now Seeking Partners for Deepwater Drilling Activities
The British Chariot Oil & Gas is looking for partners for exploration in deepwater blocks in Brazil, in the Maranhão region, where it is focusing on a prospect with many assets. The London player, has been involved in several discoveries in Namibia and Morocco last year, now plans to drill in Brazil, in the Barreirinhas basin. Chariot secured the BAR-M 292, 293, 313, and 314 blocks in the 11th round of offshore bidding in Brazil in 2013.
“Since acquiring the license, Chariot has fulfilled its commitments by acquiring, processing, and evaluating 775 square kilometers of 3D seismic data and conducted an independent audit of its prospect and lead inventories,” the company said on Wednesday.

“This portfolio consists of seven prospective reservoir targets in a variety of purely structural and combined configurations, associated with a dip-closed structure extending over 200 square kilometers primarily located over Block 314.”
“It is estimated that this prospect contains about 366 million recoverable barrels and a single vertical well located, but there is an average potential of 911 million barrels.”
“Additionally, the portfolio includes multiple additional structural, combined, and stratigraphic closures in reservoir targets in the Tertiary and Upper Cretaceous.”
The company has already gathered various data to attract suitors, with CEO Larry Bottomley stating that he has seen an increase in the data area following ExxonMobil’s exploration success in the nearby Stabroek block last year.
“Chariot intends to drill in this block after other companies in adjacent areas conduct their tests, offering valuable information to reduce the risk of the company’s own prospect portfolio”, Bottomley said about Prospect 1.
No timeline has been set for drilling plans in Brazil, but for this year and next year, the company intends to drill wells in the MOH-B prospect in the Mohammedia license and in the KEN-A prospect in the Kenitra license off Morocco back-to-back.
