With a Design Inspired by the Titan 150, the Honda CG 125 Fan 2009-2010 Became the Most Coveted Sports-Styled CG, but Its Engine Holds a Secret That Many Don’t Know: It Is Not “Varetada”.

The Honda CG 125 is a legend in Brazil, synonymous with a motorcycle “for a lifetime”. The indestructible reputation of the Sports-Styled CG largely came from its iconic “varetado” (OHV) engine. Therefore, many motorcyclists looking for a 2009 or 2010 model, with its bolder design, believe they are buying this technology.

However, the truth is that the Sports-Styled CG that marked the end of the 2000s already came with a different, more modern engine. This is the story of how Honda reinvented its greatest success while maintaining its reputation for robustness and economy, but with a new heart.

The End of an Era: Why Was the “Varetado” Engine Retired in 2008?

The year 2009 marked the biggest change in CG 125 history. After 32 years of service, the legendary “varetado” engine was retired in Brazil. The decision was not Honda’s choice, but a necessity to comply with the new, stricter emissions regulations, the PROMOT 3.

To adapt, the CG 125 Fan 2009 received a new overhead camshaft engine (OHC). Although it maintained the same power of 11.6 hp, the new engine was more efficient, quieter, and, most importantly, less polluting, ensuring the continuity of the country’s best-selling motorcycle in the market.

The “Sports Style” That Came from the Bigger Sister, the Titan 150

The Sports-Styled CG for 7 Thousand Reais Is Still Fuel Efficient, Achieving 45 km per Liter

If the engine changed, the design also underwent a revolution. Honda’s big idea was to use the styling of the newly launched and more expensive CG 150 Titan on the new CG 125 Fan. The sturdier tank, side fairings, and tail with integrated taillight gave the 125cc a much more modern and aggressive appearance.

Thus was born the Sports-Styled CG. The motorcycle seemed to belong to a higher class, which significantly increased its perceived value. It was the chance to have the look of the coveted 150cc while paying the price and enjoying the economy of a 125cc.

The Economy in Practice: The Real Consumption of the CG 125

The CG’s reputation for fuel efficiency is entirely justified, and the 2009-2010 generation with the OHC engine maintained this tradition. The estimated consumption in the range of 35 to 45 km/l is realistic and confirmed by various tests and owner reports.

With a more relaxed riding style, it’s easy to exceed 40 km/l. In more intense urban use, consumption is closer to 35 km/l. With a 15.1-liter tank, the motorcycle’s range can easily exceed 500 km.

How Much Does the Legend Cost? The Price of a CG 125 Fan 2009-2010 in 2025

The price range of R$ 5,000 to R$ 7,000 is the market floor. At these values, it’s possible to find functional motorcycles, but likely with high mileage or details needing attention.

The FIPE Table of June 2025 already positions the 2009 and 2010 models at a higher level, between R$ 7,200 and R$ 7,800. In the real market, units in excellent condition can exceed R$ 8,900. The reputation of being “unbreakable” makes the CG a great investment with low depreciation.

Is It Worth Buying This Sports-Styled CG?

Yes, definitely. Even without the original “varetado” engine, the CG 125 Fan 2009-2010 is one of the smartest purchases in the used market. The OHC engine it has is extremely reliable and durable, inheriting the robustness that made the CG line famous.

For those looking for a Sports-Styled CG that is an Unstoppable Tool for Work or a daily means of transportation with the lowest possible cost, this model continues to be an exceptional choice. It offers the best of both worlds: a design that has aged well and Honda’s legendary reliability.
