Monaco, The World Capital Of Superyachts
The prestige of the Monaco Yacht Show is not by chance. The principality has become the world capital of yachts thanks to its combination of strategic location, concentrated wealth, and nautical tradition.
Between the French Riviera and the Italian coast, Monaco offers a perfect natural setting for large vessels, with a mild climate, calm seas, and a privileged view of the Mediterranean.
The infrastructure of the Port of Monte Carlo, equipped with modern marinas and high-standard services, is capable of accommodating some of the largest yachts on the planet.
This sophisticated environment attracts billionaires, tycoons, and royal families seeking discretion and exclusivity. Additionally, favorable tax policies — such as the absence of income tax for residents — reinforce the financial appeal for those wishing to register or maintain a superyacht in the location.
Since 1991, the Monaco Yacht Show has brought together the leading shipyards and brands in the sector, transforming the principality into a global showcase of innovation and nautical luxury.
During the event, designers, engineers, and buyers from dozens of countries present visionary projects, consolidating Monaco as the epicenter of luxury navigation.
More than a tourist destination, the principality symbolizes a lifestyle. Monaco combines urban elegance, safety, and maritime tradition, establishing itself as the meeting point between technology, art, and ostentation — a port where luxury literally floats.
The Renaissance Of Eclipse, Abramovich’s Giant

While new models like the Obsidian Horizon shine in Monaco, other sea icons are regaining prominence. This is the case of the superyacht Eclipse, owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, which recently resumed its navigation after more than two years docked in Marmaris, Turkey.
Valued at around US$ 700 million, the Eclipse was once the largest yacht in the world, at 162 meters in length, surpassing any vessel of its time.
The ship remained in Turkey since March 2023, when Abramovich was sanctioned by the British government for alleged ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
After the sanctions, the billionaire moved his yachts to waters considered safer, and the Eclipse is now expected to head to a port near Istanbul for possible repairs.
Designed by British designer Terence Disdale, the Eclipse took four and a half years to build and represents the pinnacle of floating luxury. It boasts two helipads, 24 guest cabins — including 17 VIP suites —, gym, spa, nightclub, two pools, jacuzzis, and a beauty salon. The crew can consist of up to 70 people, and the yacht also houses three support boats and a mini-submarine capable of diving up to 50 meters.
Its security is also military-grade, with a German-made missile detection system, steel hull, and aluminum superstructure. Experts estimate that the annual maintenance can cost up to 10% of the construction value, including docking fees of up to US$ 350,000 per year.
Launched in 2010, the Eclipse became a landmark among superyachts, not only for its size but for the combination of engineering and design. Its style, inspired by military vessels, has attracted attention in places like Manhattan and symbolizes the peak of the era of customized megayachts — a universe where luxury, technology, and power meet on the same deck.
