An Updated Overview Reveals the Longest Streets in the World, Clarifying Whether Any of Them Are Actually in Brazil and How They Compare in Length

Airport Road, located in Mississauga, Canada, currently holds the title of the longest street in the world.

Named the longest street in the world last year, it stretches 81 km, starting at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport and extending to Simcoe County.

Some maps indicate that the route can extend even further, reaching the city of Stayner, where it would measure 96.1 km, forming an even longer journey.

Changes in the Global Ranking of the Longest Street in the World

Yonge Street, in Toronto, Canada, once topped the list of the longest streets in the world.

With 57 km, it is one of the city’s main thoroughfares and held the world record until 2024, when the title was revised. Even with the change, it remains an important urban reference in the country.

Western Avenue, in Chicago, in the United States, is the second longest street in the world, with a total of 37 km. Its construction began between 1851 and 1869, and it has become one of the locations for the traditional St. Patrick’s Day parades, one of the city’s most well-known events.

Extensions That Define Iconic Cities

In Buenos Aires, Argentina, Rivadavia Avenue has a length of 37 km. It starts at Plaza de Mayo in the center of the Argentine capital and reaches the city of Merlo in the metropolitan area. Due to its significance and size, it is considered one of the main thoroughfares of the entire capital.

Broadway Avenue in New York is one of the most recognized streets worldwide. With 33 km, it runs through the entire island of Manhattan from north to south and is home to some of the most famous theaters on the planet, as well as Times Square and Radio City Music Hall.

Roskildevej Street in Copenhagen, Denmark, is known for being the longest street in Europe. Its 31 km route begins in the Danish capital and extends to the neighboring city of Roskilde, forming a direct link between the two urban centers.

Major Highways in Latin America

In Mexico City, Avenida de los Insurgentes has a length of 28 km and cuts through the capital from north to south. It connects five important neighborhoods and has undergone various name changes since its creation in the early 20th century.

Brazil also appears on the list of the longest streets in the world, with two streets tied. Avenida Sapopemba, located in the eastern region of São Paulo, measures 26 km completely within the city.

Meanwhile, Avenida Joaquim Teotônio Segurado, in the city of Palmas, Tocantins, also totals 26 km and is considered the most important road in the capital and the largest in the entire Northern region.

The Longest Street in the World

In Los Angeles, Sunset Boulevard spans 35 km and follows the path of a trail opened in 1780 to reach the ocean.

Its route passes through iconic areas of the city, such as Hollywood and Beverly Hills, contributing to its international fame.

Finally, Broad Street in Philadelphia, United States, has a length of 21 km and stands out as one of the first planned streets in the country. Established in 1681 by surveyor Thomas Holme, it crosses the city from north to south and remains a continuous and vital route for local mobility.
