The Brazilian state oil company Petrobras has begun negotiations with the offshore supplier SBM to lease a floating platform of the FPSO type for the giant Búzios field in the Santos Basin.
The unit, to be named Almirante Tamandaré, will be the sixth FPSO in Búzios and the largest in Brazil, with a production capacity of 225,000 barrels of oil and is set to start production in the second half of 2024.

“The other two units to be installed in Búzios, the FPSOs P-78 and P-79, will be contracted through bidding,” said Petrobras. The two vessels will have the capacity to process 180,000 barrels of oil and are expected to go into operation in 2025.
SBM is constructing the FPSO Sepetiba, which will be deployed in another large oil field in the Santos Basin – the Mero field, also offshore Brazil. Once completed, the FPSO will be leased to Petrobras for a period of 22.5 years. According to SBM’s second-quarter report last month, the FPSO was 25% complete in August.
