SBM Offshore is chosen by Petrobras to charter the largest FPSO in Brazil to be installed in the Búzios field

Brazilian state oil company Petrobras has started negotiations with offshore supplier SBM to lease a floating FPSO-type platform for the giant Búzios field in the Santos Basin.

The unit, which will be called Almirante Tamandaré, will be the sixth FPSO in Búzios and the largest in Brazil, will have a production capacity of 225 barrels of oil and will start producing in the second half of 2024.

“The other two units to be installed in Búzios, the FPSOs P-78 and P-79, will be contracted through a bidding process”, said Petrobras. The two ships will have the capacity to process 180 barrels of oil and should start operating in 2025.

SBM is building the FPSO Sepetiba, to be deployed in another large oil field in the Santos Basin – the Mero field, also offshore Brazil. Once completed, the FPSO will be leased to Petrobras for a period of 22,5 years. According to SBM's Q25 report last month, the FPSO was XNUMX% complete in August.
