The Weatherford System Was Named Winner of the Spotlight on New Technology Award by the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC).
Weatherford brought to market a deepwater completion system, single-actuation, with remote activation. Combining the upper and lower completions, the system reduces installation time by 40 to 60% and assembly time by four to six days.
Utilizing radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, the TR1P system provides 100% operation without intervention in producing and injection wells.

“Weatherford’s advanced TR1P deployment system has set a new benchmark in the industry for complete installations, especially in deepwater environments,” said Mark Hopmann, President of Completions for Weatherford. “The ability to perform multiple operations in less time with fewer equipment and personnel is a game-changing deepwater solution, and our customers’ response is a challenge to significantly enhance efficiencies when installing deepwater completion systems. The TR1P enables operations to be performed as required by the reservoir, rather than by your budget.”
The industry is already aware of the deepwater capabilities of the TR1P. The system was named winner of the Spotlight on New Technology Award by the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC).
“Receiving these awards means that the industry has recognized the value of our TR1P technology,” said Hopmann. “In a deepwater injector well in West Africa, the TR1P reduced installation time by 40-60% and drilling time by four to six days, compared to a traditional upper and lower completion process.”
As the only provider of drilling tools enabled for RFID technology, Weatherford combined this capability with elements of its existing completion technologies. The result is the industry’s first 100% interventionless operation that significantly reduces the total cost of installing a deepwater completion system.
The Advantages of TR1P Include:
- Zero control lines, washpipe, wireline, coiled tubing, workover, and wet-connects;
- Function to test all components during installation;
- Stimulate and isolate a zone or the entire well;
- Set and test selective upper and lower completion components;
- Test independent barriers;
- Make the well active/inactive remotely.
