At the opening of the Gold Symposium and the Amazon Mining Fair, which took place last Tuesday (08/23), executive Luis Maurício Azevedo, president of the Brazilian Association of Mineral Research and Mining Companies (ABPM), commented on the future of the mining market in Pará. Thus, the need for new investments was highlighted so that the state could develop mining projects linked to the zero-carbon race in the coming years.

The opening of the Gold Symposium and the Amazon Mining Fair brought to the debate a series of important topics concerning the mining sector in the state of Pará, including the need for investments in sustainability and zero-carbon projects.
This is because Luis Maurício Azevedo, president of ABPM, opened the event stating that the state has strong potential to become highly competitive in the sustainable mining market over the next few years.

Furthermore, the Secretary of Economic Development, Mining, and Energy of the State of Pará, Jose Fernando Gomes Junior, was honored for his work on sustainable projects focusing on zero carbon.
Among the significant achievements highlighted in Pará’s mineral extraction in recent periods is the installation of the market giant North Star, which will begin operations later this year, with an initial capacity to process 25% of the country’s gold production.
In addition, ABPM noted that the state still allocates 20% of mining royalties to research and innovation projects in the sector, also focusing on the zero-carbon market.
ABPM’s Event at the Fair Praised by Sector Representatives, Who See a Bright Future for Zero-Carbon Projects
Executive Frederico Bedran, director of Mineral Production of SGM of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, also attended the opening of the Gold Symposium and the Amazon Mining Fair, commenting on ABPM’s performance in the sector. He praised the association’s event and stated that the work it has been doing in the segment is essential for the development of increasingly sustainable projects.
Meanwhile, the director of the National Mining Agency (ANM), Ronaldo Lima, mentioned that the major highlight of the upcoming public offering round for mineral extraction areas is Pará, with 80% of the areas to be offered, primarily in Tapajós.
Another point highlighted regarding the future of zero-carbon projects in Pará’s mining sector is the geological study of the state, to provide more security for investments in the region, according to Márcio José Remédio, director of the Geological Survey of Brazil.
Finally, Ana Carolina Alves, vice president of the Union of Mineral Industries of the State of Pará (Simineral), emphasized the importance of the Gold Symposium — Brazil 2022 and the Amazon Mining Fair for more direct contact with the upcoming investments in the sector in the northern region of the country.
