Acelen and Partners Form Joint Venture for 161MW Solar Park in the Brazilian Semi-Arid, Driving Decarbonization and Creating 530 Jobs with PAC Support.
A Acelen, through the Mataripe Refinery, reveals the creation of a joint venture with Perfin Infra Recursos Management and Illian Renewable Energies, focused on an energy project. This venture aims to boost energy production in the Brazilian semi-arid region, with a capacity of 161MW, promoting decarbonization and creating new jobs in the region.
In addition to the positive environmental impact, the initiative will create around 530 jobs, supporting the Growth Acceleration Program. This solar energy project is a crucial step toward increasing the available electricity in the region. The union of these companies demonstrates a significant effort toward a more sustainable and energy-efficient future. The development of solar complexes is a growing trend that is transforming the energy sector in Brazil.
Energy Venture in the Brazilian Semi-Arid
Besides meeting its own electricity demand, with this venture, the company is also making significant strides in its decarbonization goals. The solar complex is expected to begin operations in the third quarter of 2025. The project will be built in the Brazilian semi-arid region, an area privileged with excellent solar irradiation, and will have an installed capacity of 161MW.

Environmental and Socioeconomic Impact
Much beyond renewable and clean energy generation, this initiative will offset 128,000 tons of CO2 per year, also reducing the energy consumption purchased by the Mataripe Refinery, eliminating scope 2. The construction of the solar park will also contribute to the socioeconomic development of the region, creating 530 new job opportunities.
Investments and Financing of the Project
Included in the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC) of the Federal Government, the solar complex will receive an investment of around R$530 million. Of this amount, R$418.5 million will be in the project finance non-recourse modality, contracted in US dollars with the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES).
Statement from Acelen’s CEO
For Acelen’s CEO, Luiz de Mendonça, the project reinforces the company’s vision of accelerating the energy transition with excellence. ‘We reaffirm our purpose since our arrival in Bahia, contributing to significant advances in CO2 reductions, which gains even more relevance with the implementation of this solar complex’, highlights Mendonça.
Strategic Actions for the Energy Transition
The strategic investment is tied to a series of actions from the energy transition agenda adopted by Acelen, contributing to the reduction and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) from the refinery. The increasing electricity demand from the refinery, with electrification projects, will be met by the incentivized energy contract in the self-production modality.
Carbon Credits and Commitment to Sustainability
Acelen will have the carbon credits generated by the solar park, as well as the preference in energy purchase, reinforcing its commitment to decarbonization.
