Petrobras and Vale Prevent the Dismissal of 100 Employees
Petrobras was set to lose the barge dock at the Tubarão Port in Vitória. The terminal is used to supply ships docked at the ports of Vitória and is operated by Transpetro, a subsidiary of the state company. At least 100 outsourced workers would have been dismissed. This change was a request from Vale, the owner of the dock who has leased the site to the state company since 1996.
The company cited operational issues in making the decision and stated that it had given Petrobras, in 2019, a one-year deadline to seek alternatives.

The Director of the Oil Workers Union of Espírito Santo (Sindipetro-ES), Valnisio Hoffmann, Commented on the Companies’ Decision
“It would be terrible, because the trend is that ships would start refueling in Rio de Janeiro, which would harm logistics and could result in a loss to the state of R$ 45 million in the Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS). ”
A businessman in the port sector, who wished to remain anonymous, described the situation as devastating, and reported that 60% of his revenue is linked to refueling ships, which would result in layoffs.
Vale Allows Petrobras to Operate Until May 2021
With the contract extended for an additional six months, Petrobras will have until May of next year to seek other alternatives; one of the oil company’s last options is to go to areas of Codesa.
The Port Complex of Espírito Santo is currently one of the most important in Brazil. With a transportation infrastructure that includes rail, road, and maritime services at good levels, only the highway needs development. The railway is still underutilized. It is a very attractive and competitive intermodal transport system.
