The agricultural sector leads the generation of new jobs in 2020, with 98,320 positions from January to August. The agriculture and construction sectors are the only ones with a positive balance for the year.

Agriculture Continues to Lead Job Creation
The Brazilian agribusiness, one of the pillars of the country’s economy, grew by 5.26% in the first half of 2020 compared to the previous year, according to the National Confederation of Agriculture (CNA) on Wednesday.
The growth in agribusiness was driven by abundant harvests and an exchange rate that favored exports, according to CNA’s report.

Even Amid the Pandemic, The Estimate Is for Growth in 2021
The service and supply segments grew by 4.76% and 1.69%, respectively, while the agribusiness sector decreased by 0.76% amid the new coronavirus pandemic.
“On the supply side, the massive grain harvest has ensured that the growing international demand for Brazilian agro-industrial products is met, also driven by the depreciation of the real against the dollar,” said the CNA. In June, the Brazilian agribusiness GDP grew by 1.31%, marking the sixth consecutive monthly growth.
The State of São Paulo Had the Most Job Openings
In São Paulo, with an expansion of 66,235 job positions, it was the state with the best performance in agriculture in 2020, followed by Minas Gerais (+8,585 jobs), Goiás (+7,098), Bahia (+5,390), Mato Grosso (+4,509), and Paraná (+3,798).
In the overall result, Brazil accumulated a closure of 849,387 jobs in the first eight months of the year. Services (-489,195), Commerce (-409,830), and Industry (-107,024) lost positions from January to August.
