“Being recognized at BlueTech Week alongside our partner, Principle Power, with this award signifies the important value of the work we are doing”, said Astrid Onsum, Head of Energy at Aker Solutions. “We look forward to continuing our good work together as we forge a sustainable future with offshore wind solutions”.
“We are proud to receive this award from the Maritime Alliance, alongside our partner Aker Solutions”, said João Metelo, CEO of Principle Power. “The Environmental Leadership Award recognizes the innovative and collaborative approach we have taken together and we believe it results in the best outcomes for the industry’s expansion and for meeting the UN Sustainable Development Goals. We appreciate the excellent work of the TMA and are grateful for this tremendous recognition.”
Aker Solutions and Principle Power participated in various areas of the week-long event. This year’s conference theme was ‘United Nations Sustainable Development Goals – Industrial Solutions’, with specific focus areas including Marine Debris Solutions, Maritime Robotics, Water / Effluent Technologies, Workforce Development, and Offshore Renewable Energy, the primary area of interest for both companies.
Principle Power has been working in the renewable energy sector for over 10 years and is a provider of development, technology, and services for the offshore wind industry. Principle Power’s innovative technology, WindFloat, is a proven floating foundation for wind turbines in deep waters with a simple, economical, and patented design. The WindFloat has been deployed for offshore wind energy projects off the coasts of Portugal and Scotland and is featured in projects under construction and development worldwide.
Aker Solutions’ offering covers the entire lifecycle of an offshore wind farm, including planning, installation, commissioning, operations, and maintenance services. The company has over 40 years of experience in designing, delivering, and maintaining floating structures and offshore power systems.
In addition, Aker Solutions’ leadership position in the global umbilicals market and its in-house cable and umbilicals capabilities can be leveraged to meet the development needs of wind farms. Earlier this year, Aker Solutions invested in Principle Power and formed a strategic alliance to help promote floating solutions for offshore wind energy, reducing costs and risks for developments, in order to stimulate industry growth.
