Running red lights accounts for 67.6 thousand traffic violations
Of the 78.9 thousand penalties issued by July, 67.6 thousand were related to running red lights. Electronic monitoring, conducted by traffic cameras, identified 62.4 thousand of these occurrences.
An additional 11.3 thousand violations occurred due to parking or stopping on pedestrian crosswalks, including in areas with traffic signals. More than 10.3 thousand of these reports were identified by electronic equipment.

In the same period in 2025, Campinas had recorded 80.1 thousand violations involving crosswalks and traffic signals. These figures consider penalties that were effectively issued and may include occurrences from the previous year processed later.
Among the incidents reported by Emdec is a motorcycle running a red light on John Boyd Dunlop Avenue, near the BRT Roseira / PUC station, while two pedestrians were crossing the street.
Conflicts were also noted between drivers who disregarded the signaling and those who abided by the rules, as well as the improper use of exclusive lanes followed by red light violations on the BRT Ouro Verde Corridor.
Another 127 incidents involved actions against pedestrians
Emdec also recorded 127 violations this year involving other forms of disrespect towards pedestrians.
These behaviors include overtaking in the opposite lane or making turns over crosswalks, failing to yield, driving while threatening pedestrians, and using vehicles to splash water or throw objects at people.
According to the coordinator of Monitoring and Radar Supervision, Nilvando Rezende, the definition of critical points for electronic monitoring takes into account the number of accidents, the recurrence of irregularities, and the characteristics of the roadway.
“The result we want to achieve is not punishment, but it ends up being one of the tools to raise awareness and achieve the protection of life on the roads,” he stated.
Six pedestrians died in traffic in the first half of the year
Campinas recorded 23 fatal accidents involving pedestrians on urban roads in 2025, compared to 21 the previous year, marking a 9.5% increase.
Among the fatal accidents in 2025 that were analyzed for risk factors, four cases involved running red lights.
In the first half of 2026, six of the 16 recorded traffic fatalities involved pedestrians, accounting for 37% of the total. This number represents a 40% decrease compared to the same period in 2025.
As of the reported period, no deaths related to running red lights had been identified in 2026.
Active Mobility Week takes place in August
From August 8 to 16, Emdec is promoting Active Mobility Week, with awareness actions and reinforcement of a permanent campaign focused on pedestrian safety, carried out in partnership with Detran-SP.
The program includes activities related to Pedestrian Day, celebrated on August 8, and Cyclist Day on August 19.
