Neoenergia, The Pioneer In Energy Transition In Brazil, Has 27 Parks And Two Solar Plants Under Construction In The Northeast
Pioneering the energy transition in Brazil, Neoenergia is expanding its client portfolio in the Free Contracting Environment (ACL), focusing on clean energy. The company has just signed an energy trading contract with Âmbar, the energy arm of the J&F group, which includes companies like JBS, Eldorado Brasil Celulose, Flora, PicPay, and Banco Original. Under the agreement, in the PPA modality (in English, Power Purchase Agreement), the J&F group accesses 30MWm of renewable energy from two new wind complexes currently under construction in the Northeast, through trading in the free market for the next ten years, starting in 2023.

Sustainable Practices And Initiatives Such As Decarbonization Are More Necessary Than Ever Within Any Sustainability Strategy.
“The contract with Âmbar demonstrates the company’s concern with environmental issues and that our bet on a more sustainable model in the electric sector, initiated over 15 years ago, is on the right track. The market increasingly values sustainability in business, and we continue to innovate and strive to meet the demand for clean energy. The 27 new parks we are building in Paraíba, Bahia, and Piauí will triple our installed capacity for wind energy. In addition, the company is advancing in the deployment of two solar plants, also in the Northeast, and we are attentive to opportunities to expand our investment portfolio,” says Neoenergia’s Director of Liberalized Businesses, Hugo Nunes.
Because it was carried out under the PPA model, the contract brings several advantages, such as more savings, since the prices are fixed, flexibility, and a guarantee that the energy comes from renewable sources, generating value for the customer, security regarding availability and energy sales revenue.

A study reveals the expansion of renewable energy procurement in Brazil and shows how companies are taking advantage of opportunities to reduce expenses, ensure energy efficiency, and strengthen strategic environmental commitments.
“Access to clean energy sources is strategic for the J&F group, with its companies moving increasingly quickly toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions in their production chains,” explains the President of Âmbar Energia, Marcelo Zanatta. JBS, for example, recently committed to “Net Zero 2040,” aiming to eliminate its net carbon emissions by 2040. PicPay, on the other hand, has already offset 100% of its greenhouse gas emissions in 2020.
The Iberdrola group, the controlling shareholder of Neoenergia, has expertise in this type of agreement globally, especially in countries like the United States, Mexico, and Spain. In Brazil, another similar contract was signed by Neoenergia in 2020 with Claro and is linked to the company’s first large solar plant, Luzia (PB), which will have a capacity of 149.3 MWdc.
Two Wind Farms That Will Generate Part Of The Energy Supplied To Âmbar Are Expected To Start Operations In The Second Half Of 2021
The two wind farms that will generate part of the energy supplied to Âmbar are expected to start operations in the second half of 2021, being part of the Chafariz project, under construction in the Sertão region of Paraíba. The project will consist of 15 parks with an installed capacity of 471.2 MW; construction began in 2019 and, ahead of the business plan, operations of the first wind turbines commenced at the end of June. Currently, 53 units are operational, representing an installed capacity of 184 MW. In total, there will be 136 turbines of one of the most modern models in the global market. The construction of the project has generated over 1,400 jobs in the region. Additionally, the new asset has operational synergy with the Luzia solar plant and the Santa Luzia transmission line.
The Oitis Wind Complex began construction in November 2020, three months ahead of the business plan. It will consist of 12 parks with an installed capacity of 566.5 MW. This energy will have Renewable Energy Certification (I-REC), a label widely recognized in the market that guarantees the use of clean energy.
With The New Parks, Neoenergia Will Reach 1.5 GW Of Installed Capacity In Wind Energy
With the new parks, Neoenergia will reach 1.5 GW of installed capacity in wind energy, tripling the current capacity for this source. The increase in investments in renewables is aligned with the company’s commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), primarily to provide clean energy and combat climate change. Moreover, it contributes to Iberdrola’s global decarbonization goal, which aims to neutralize greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
