Through Braskem’s Investment, the Retorna Machines from Ambipar Triciclo Will Receive Polyethylene and Polypropylene Waste Aimed at Increasing the Recycling of This Type of Plastic

Ambipar Triciclo and Braskem, the largest producer of thermoplastic resins in the Americas, have formed a partnership to enhance the disposal of plastic products in a conscious and appropriate manner. From this initiative, all Retorna Machines, a technology from Ambipar Triciclo, will start receiving polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) packaging, the most widely produced plastic resins globally, which are present in many household and everyday consumer plastic packaging, such as yogurt bottles, sugar, bean, and rice packages, margarine and ice cream containers, shampoo, conditioner, fabric softener packaging, among others.

The action contributes to Braskem’s sustainable development goals, including the elimination of plastic waste. The company aims to produce 300,000 tons of thermoplastic resins and chemical products with recycled content by 2025 and one million tons by 2030, in addition to working to prevent 1.5 million tons of plastic waste from being sent for incineration, landfill, or disposed of in the environment.

“To achieve Circular Economy, it is essential to engage consumers about proper disposal and the importance of recycling. In this sense, we invest in partnerships like this one with Ambipar Triciclo, which generate awareness about everyone’s role in building a more sustainable future. Moreover, the project will help us reach our goals for eliminating plastic waste, generating a positive impact across the entire production chain”, says Fabiana Quiroga, Circular Economy Director at Braskem in South America.

The collected PE and PP plastic waste from the Retorna Machines will be used as raw material in Braskem’s newly inaugurated mechanical recycling plant in Indaiatuba (SP), which had an investment of R$ 67 million and is the result of a partnership with Valoren, a technology development and waste management company for transforming into recycled products. It is expected that annually, 250 million post-consumer polyethylene and polypropylene packaging will be transformed into 14,000 tons of high-quality recycled resin, which will in turn be reused as raw material in the transformation industry.

“Our proposal is to encourage the population to dispose of waste properly, providing more Retorna Machines, expanding and strengthening partnerships like this one. With Braskem, we will boost our sustainability goals and attract more people interested in contributing to the preservation of our planet and future generations,” comments Felipe Nassar Cury, CEO of Ambipar Triciclo.
