To prevent the bankruptcy of Americanas, the company entered bankruptcy protection and submitted its final recovery plan for bankruptcy recovery in December 2023. The actual debt presented in the plan was more than R$ 50 billion, including a labor debt of R$ 82.9 million and a result fraud of R$ 25.2 billion at the end of 2022.

In the numbers regarding the third quarter of 2024, even with the closures of Americanas, the company reported a profit of R$ 10.3 billion, reversing a loss of R$ 1.63 billion seen in the same period of the previous year. The net revenue of Americanas in the third quarter of 2024 was R$ 3.19 billion, stable compared to the same period in 2023.

Americanas plans not only to invest in the expansion of physical sales points but also to expand its portfolio of financial services and resume credit options that were previously accessible on the company’s platforms. For this expansion projected for this year, the retailer plans to open few units in the Northeast and possibly in the Midwest, in order to test the concept and flow.
