With almost 70 meters in width at the stern and a shape resembling a “giant slice of cheese,” the Ramform Titan tows up to 24 seismic cables to sweep the ocean floor in 3D and reveal oil reserves hidden beneath kilometers of sediment.
Now, it was the turn of Porto de Imbituba, a port complex located in the state of Santa Catarina, to acquire another vessel to support the activities carried out with cargo at the site.
This is the new tugboat SAAM Tapajó, a support vessel for the operations of incoming and outgoing ships that carry goods at the port.
The vessel, which assists in the maneuvers for the entry and exit of ships, belongs to SAAM Towage, the largest tugboat operator in the Americas.
The new tugboat was completed in 2008 and features azimuth propulsion (Azimuth Stern Drive — ASD), with a length of 24.4 meters and a capacity of up to 52 tons (bollard pull ahead).
Infrastructure Improvements and Quality of Operations Are the Main Focus of Porto de Imbituba Management for 2022
The port complex in Santa Catarina that received the new tugboat SAAM Tapajó has been investing heavily in improvements to the quality of operations and infrastructure over the past few years.
With a land area of 892,410.05 m² and a maritime area of 5,633,192.73 m², the location is one of the most important ports for the economy of the state of Santa Catarina.
Regarding infrastructure, Porto de Imbituba has a high quality to ensure greater agility and efficiency in ship operations.
Berths 1 and 2 are 250 and 410 meters long, respectively, totaling 660 m of quay, while berth 3 has a length of 245 m with installations for bulk solid handling.
In addition, the complex has the following equipment: 2 portainers (ship-to-shore); 7 mobile harbor cranes (Mobile Harbor Crane); 1 shiploader; 1 platform for liquid bulk and 4 truck scales.
