ExxonMobil Will Have a Longer Period for Its Exploratory Fuel Campaign in the Fields of the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin and the Campos Basin After the Announcement of the Extension of the Exploration Deadlines Made by the ANP.

The National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) announced the extension of exploration deadlines for fuels in the Brazilian fields of various companies, including the American company ExxonMobil. Thus, for this Tuesday, (02/08), the oil company will continue its exploratory campaign in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin and the Campos Basin, now with longer deadlines to complete its production and search for new indications of oil and natural gas in the areas.

ExxonMobil Secures Longer Deadlines for Its Exploratory Fuel Campaign in the Fields of the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin and the Campos Basin

The ANP has just announced the extension of the exploratory campaign deadlines for the American company ExxonMobil in four exploration and production blocks in the national territory. Thus, the company will have a longer deadline to complete its exploration campaign and search for new resources in the areas of SEAL-M-575, SEAL-M-637, and SEAL-M-505 in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin; and also for block C-M-789 in the Campos Basin, which ensures a strong presence of the American company in the national territory.

The announcement of the extension of the deadlines for ExxonMobil is based on the scope of ANP Resolution No. 815/2020, which guarantees the possibility of extending the exploratory campaign period by up to 9 months if it is still in the current Exploration Phase authorized by the ANP. ANP data on its website shows that the exploratory campaign period for ExxonMobil in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin has been extended from February 14, 2027, to November 14, 2027.

As for the initial phase of the company’s exploratory period in the Campos Basin block, the deadline has been extended from September 11, 2025, to June 11, 2026, thus ensuring the maximum extension period for fuel exploration in these fields.

ExxonMobil will also continue its analysis and search for new resources in the Campos Basin, where it announced last July that it found indications of oil and gas, specifically in block C-M-789, in water depth of 2,681 meters, with the drilling operation of well 1-EMEB-1A-RJS (also known as Opal-1A).

Company Management Recently Underwent Changes and the Deadline Extension Announced by the ANP Will Bring New Perspectives for Future Fuel Exploration

Recently, ExxonMobil announced changes in its internal management, and executive Alberto Ferrin became the new president of the company, stating that “Brazil continues to be a strategic country for ExxonMobil globally. In 2024, we will start the production phase of the Bacalhau field, with our partners Equinor, Petrogal, and PPSA. We also continue to seek opportunities that add value in the exploration area. Our greatest strength is our people. We have a top-notch team. I feel proud to represent and lead our workforce.”

Now, with the extension of the exploratory campaign deadlines in the Brazilian fields, carried out by the ANP, the company will have even more opportunities to expand its production in the national territory. The blocks SEAL-M-575, SEAL-M-637, and SEAL-M-505 were acquired by Exxon in 2019, and the company has half the interest in the fields, in partnership with Enauta (30%) and Murphy (20%).

Thus, the company will be able to leverage its majority interest in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin consortium, coupled with the exploration deadline extensions for fuels, to make new growth plans in the Brazilian market, strongly linked to the commercialization of oil and gas across the global landscape.
