ExxonMobil will have a longer period to continue its exploratory campaign for fuels in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin and Campos Basin fields following the announcement of the extension of the exploration deadlines carried out by the ANP.

The National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) announced an increase in fuel exploration deadlines in the brazilian fields of several companies, among them, the American company ExxonMobil. Thus, for this Tuesday (02/08), the oil company will continue its exploratory campaign in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin and in the Campos Basin, now with longer deadlines to finalize its production and search for new signs of oil and natural gas in the areas.

ExxonMobil achieves longer deadlines for its exploratory fuel campaign in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin and Campos Basin fields

The ANP has just announced the extension of the terms of the exploratory campaign of the American company ExxonMobil in four blocks of search and production of fuels in the national territory. Thus, the company will have a longer period to complete its exploration campaign and search for new resources in the areas of SEAL-M-575, SEAL-M-637 and SEAL-M-505, in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin; and also for the CM-789 block, in the Campos Basin, which guarantee a strong presence of Americana in the national territory.

The announcement of the extension of deadlines for ExxonMobil is based on the scope of ANP Resolution n.º 815/2020, which guarantees the possibility of expanding the period of the exploratory campaign by up to 9 months if it is still in the current Exploration Phase by the ANP . ANP data on its website show that, now, the period of ExxonMobil's exploratory campaign in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin has been extended from February 14, 2027 to November 14, 2027.

As for the initial phase of the company's exploratory period in the Campos Basin block region, the deadline was extended from September 11, 2025 to June 11, 2026, thus guaranteeing the maximum period of expansion for the exploration of fuels in these fields. .

ExxonMobil will continue its analyzes and search for new resources in the Campos Basin, where it announced in July last year that it found signs of oil and gas, more precisely in block CM-789, in a water depth of 2.681 meters, with the drilling operation of well 1-EMEB-1A-RJS (also called Opal-1A).

The company's management has undergone recent changes and the increase in deadlines announced by the ANP will bring new prospects for future exploration of fuels

Recently, ExxonMobil announced changes in its internal management and executive Alberto Ferrin became the company's new president, stating that “Brazil continues to be a strategic country for ExxonMobil globally. In 2024, we will start the production phase of the Bacalhau field, with our partners Equinor, Petrogal and PPSA. We also continue to seek opportunities that have added value in the exploration area. Our greatest strength is our people. We have a top notch team. I feel proud to represent and lead our workforce.”

Now, with the increase in terms of the exploratory campaign in the brazilian fields, carried out by the ANP, the company will have even more the possibility of expanding its production in the national territory. Blocks SEAL-M-575, SEAL-M-637 and SEAL-M-505 were acquired by Exxon in 2019 and the company owns half of the stake in the fields, in partnership with Enauta (30%) and Murphy (20%).

Thus, the company will be able to take advantage of its majority stake in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin consortium, linked to the increase in fuel exploration terms, to take on new growth plans in the Brazilian market, strongly linked to the sale of oil and gas throughout the world scenario.
