The National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels has authorized Zeg Biogas and Energy to commence operation of a landfill biometano production facility in São Paulo. This is the first plant of this biofuel approved in the State and the fourth in Brazil.

Biometano is a renewable fuel and represents better utilization of existing waste in landfills, already being used in several countries. It also represents an increase in the supply of gas to be injected into the distribution network.

In 2017, ANP regulated the quality of biometano from landfills and sewage treatment plants with Resolution ANP No. 685/2017, and in 2018, it regulated the exercise of the biometano production activity with Resolution ANP No. 734/2018.

The second authorization was given to Inpasa Agroindustrial S.A., located in Sinop/MT, for increasing production capacity from 1,750 m³/d to 3,000 m³/d of hydrated ethanol and from 1,750 m³/d to 3,000 m³/d of anhydrous ethanol. With this, the unit, which produces ethanol from corn, becomes the largest ethanol production facility in the country in terms of authorized capacity.
