Ford Ends Vehicle Production in the Country and Ka Family and SUV EcoSport No Longer Appear on the Multinational’s Site in Brazil, Leaving the Market Definitively with the End of Stocks

The last chapter of Ford’s production end in the country has just happened, announced in January. Last Friday (04/02), the vehicles Ka, Ka Sedan and EcoSport no longer appear on the multinational’s site and have officially gone out of production in Brazil. Now, the cheapest Ford in Brazil is the Ranger pickup, which starts at R$ 166,790 in the XL Simple Cab 2.2 Diesel 4×4 manual version. After Automakers Suspend Vehicle Production in 29 Factories in Brazil, Volkswagen and Toyota Resume Production in the Country.

It is worth reinforcing that Ford has not stopped selling cars here in Brazil: it is now offering only imported models, such as Ranger, Territory, and Mustang, in addition to the upcoming launches announced Bronco, Transit, and Mustang Mach 1.

Fenabrave has not yet released the sales figures for March, but both Ka and EcoSport were in free fall in registrations, due to increasingly lower stocks and consumer distrust, apprehensive about possible higher devaluations.

The Next Ford Coming Up

The Ford Bronco’s launch in Brazil has been confirmed for May, available in three body styles (Bronco 2-door, Bronco 4-door, and Bronco Sport). It will initially arrive in the Bronco Sport configuration, with turbo engines.

Mustang Mach 1 has also been confirmed, a limited edition with a V8 engine producing 486 hp designed for the tracks. It is worth mentioning that the arrival of the recently announced Transit line was also already planned, with production in Uruguay.

After Ford, Multinationals Renault and Nissan May Close Their Factories in Brazil and Automotive Industry May Collapse in the Country

After Ford’s departure from Brazil, the global supply crisis and the pandemic have caused automakers like Chevrolet, Honda, Audi (Volkswagen), Scania, Volvo, and Mercedes-Benz to also suspend vehicle production. Now, according to information from Carlos Ghosn, multinationals Renault and Nissan may close their factories in Brazil, and the automotive industry may collapse in the country.

The Brazilian car market has fallen from 4 million units/year to just 2 million, said former Nissan president Ghosn.

“The weakest will leave Brazil, which always happens during major crises. Among the weakest, I mention the Alliance (between Nissan and Renault), because to compete in Brazil, it is necessary to have a strong automaker, willing to overcome the specific cycles of the local economy, and if the company does not have that will, it will keep leaving and entering the country, firing and hiring, stopping and returning. This stop and go is very bad for the brand and for the employees,” Ghosn states.
