Ford ends production of vehicles in the country and the Ka family and the EcoSport SUV no longer appear on the multinational's website in Brazil, leaving the market definitively with the end of stocks

The last chapter of the end of Ford production in the country, announced in January, has just taken place. Last Friday (02/04), the Ka, Ka Sedan and EcoSport vehicles no longer appear on the multinational's website and are officially discontinued in Brazil. Now, the cheapest Ford in Brazil is the Ranger pickup, which starts at R$ 166.790 in the XL Cabine Simples 2.2 Diesel 4×4 manual version. After automakers paralyze vehicle manufacturing at 29 factories in Brazil, Volkswagen and Toyota return production in the country.

It is worth noting that Ford did not stop selling cars here in Brazil: it now offers only imported models, such as the Ranger, Territory and Mustang, in addition to the announced upcoming releases Bronco, Transit and Mustang Mach 1.

Fenabrave has not yet disclosed the sales figures for March, but both Ka and EcoSport were in free fall in registrations, as a result of increasingly smaller inventories and consumer distrust, apprehensive about possible higher devaluations.

The next Ford that comes around

The Ford Bronco had its launch in Brazil confirmed for May, available in three bodies (Bronco 2 doors, Bronco 4 doors and Bronco Sport). It should arrive initially in the Bronco Sport configuration, with turbo engines.

Ford releases the first Bronco teaser, a video in which it confirms the month of May as the arrival date of the new SUV in Brazil

The Mustang Mach 1 is also confirmed, a limited edition with a 8 hp V486 engine developed for the tracks. It is worth remembering that the arrival of the Transit line, recently announced, with production in Uruguay, was already foreseen.

After Ford, multinationals Renault and Nissan may close their factories in Brazil and the automotive industry may collapse in the country

After the departure of the Ford automaker from Brazil, the global supply crisis and the pandemic made car factories such as Chevrolet, Honda, Audi (Volkswagen), Scania, Volvo and Mercedes-Benz also suspend vehicle production. Now, according to information provided by Carlos Ghosn, the multinationals Renault and Nissan may close their factories in Brazil and the automotive industry may collapse in the country.

The Brazilian car market has dropped from 4 million units/year to just 2 million, said former Nissan president Ghosn.

“The weakest will leave Brazil, which always happens in major crises. Among the weakest, I mention the Alliance (between Nissan and Renault), because to compete in Brazil it is necessary to have a strong automaker, willing to overcome the specific cycles of the local economy, and, if the company does not have this will, it will be leaving and entering the country all the time, firing and hiring, stopping and returning. This stop and go is very bad for the brand and for the employees”, says Ghosn.
