The First Park of the Caldeirão Grande 2 Solar Power Complex and Photovoltaic Panels from Ibitu Energia in Piauí (PI) Commenced Commercial Operations to Serve Over 280 Thousand Families. The Project, Which Has 7 Parks, Will Have an Installed Capacity of 252 Megawatts-Peak (MWp); Approximately R$840 million Will Be Invested in the Project, with R$429 Million Financed by the Banco do Nordeste (BNB)
On Friday, November 4th, the first of the 7 parks of the Caldeirão Grande Solar Energy Complex and Photovoltaic Panels, a project by Ibitu Energia with an installed capacity of 252 Megawatts-Peak (MWp), equivalent to the consumption of over 280 thousand Brazilian homes, started commercial operation. With the authorization granted by Aneel, 36.53 MWp will be available in this first phase. The Complex is located in the Caldeirão Grande region in Piauí (PI).
The forecast is that the second and third plants will begin commercial operations later this month, together providing an additional 73.14 MWp. CG2 is expected to operate at full capacity starting in February 2023, increasing the company’s installed capacity by 28%.
By completion, approximately R$840 million will be invested in the project, with R$429 million financed by the Banco do Nordeste (BNB) through resources from the Constitutional Financing Fund of the Northeast (FNE).

The Contract with the Bank to Finance the Solar Power Project and Photovoltaic Panels Lasts for 20 Years
“The BNB Bank has been an important partner in the Brazilian renewable market. In this third operation together, we are adding important generation capacity to the Brazilian system, contributing to the development of important regions of our country,” says Ricardo Santos, Financial Director of Ibitu. The contract with the BNB has a term of 20 years, with a grace period of 12 months and a bonus for contractual compliance.
“Seeing this project coming to fruition at such a challenging time to enable new projects is a source of great pride, and with our teams’ efforts, we are following our sustainable investment agenda supported by the principles of generating social and environmental value. This Complex increases our energy generation in the State of Piauí (PI), reinforces our growth in solar projects, and positions Ibitu as one of the main players in solar and renewable generation in Brazil,” states Gustavo Ribeiro, President of Ibitu.

Initially, the Goal Was to Develop a Wind Project. However, the Company in Ibitu, Piauí (PI) Decided to Shift Directions to Solar Energy
Caldeirão Grande 2 will connect to the Curral Novo substation of Piauí (PI) 2, the same one that receives energy from the wind farm Caldeirão Grande 1, also from Ibitu, and is the first renewable energy project to have its generation source changed by Aneel. CG2 was conceived as a wind project, but after extensive reassessment by Ibitu, it became a solar project.
The construction, being developed in partnership with Elastri, has already employed over 950 workers, with 67% coming from Caldeirão Grande and nearby towns. Additionally, one of the pre-assembly stages of the trackers was performed with 100% female labor through the hiring of women from the region.
Almost One Thousand People Worked in the Job Vacancies of the Power Plant
Another concern for Ibitu was to offer technical training to the residents of the municipality. For this, in partnership with the city hall and SENAI/PI, the company developed the course on Maintenance Techniques for Photovoltaic Systems, aimed at individuals who completed high school and had no professional experience yet.
The class was composed of 20 participants, who have already completed their practical and theoretical lessons and received their certificates. Additionally, 7 of them participated in a selection process at Ibitu to work as assistants in the CG2 solar complex, and two have already been hired. The expectation is that two more will be hired next year.
