Free English and Spanish: IFSULDEMINAS announces limited slots and guarantees a national certificate. Find out how to enroll!
Learning a new language for free and still obtaining an official certificate is a rare opportunity, and the Federal Institute of Southern Minas Gerais (IFSULDEMINAS) is offering exactly that. The Public Notice No. 246/2025 has just been published, opening enrollment for the English Course and Spanish Course, completely free and in-person, through the Language Center (CELIN). There are a total of 200 slots distributed among five campuses, with classes starting in September.
What to Expect from the Free English and Spanish Courses Offered by IFSULDEMINAS
The main goal of the program is to increase the chances of students and the local community accessing quality language education, whether as a first experience or as a continuation of studies.
Classes will take place from September to December 2025, always in a face-to-face format, and will include activities such as lectures, practical exercises, discussion forums, and learning assessments. Each class will have a workload of 40 hours, with weekly meetings of two hours.

According to the acting rector of IFSULDEMINAS, Luiz Carlos Dias da Rocha, the initiative aims to strengthen language education as a tool for academic and professional opportunities: “We want the community to see CELIN as a gateway to broaden horizons. Mastery of a foreign language opens doors in the job market and in internationalization projects”.
100% Free English and Spanish Courses at the Federal Institute
Available classes include Basic English I, Basic English II, Basic English III, and Basic Spanish I, catering to everyone from beginners to those with prior knowledge.
Each class has 20 slots, totaling 200 opportunities. The distribution is as follows:
- Carmo de Minas: two classes of Basic English I.
- Inconfidentes: Basic English I and Basic Spanish I.
- Machado: Basic English III and Basic Spanish I.
- Muzambinho: Basic English I and Basic English II.
- Poços de Caldas: Basic English I and Basic Spanish I.
How the Selection Will Be Made
The selection process is straightforward: candidates will be selected by order of enrollment in the online system. If the number of applicants is equal to or less than the number of vacancies, all will be automatically guaranteed. The list of approved candidates will be published on the IFSULDEMINAS portal on September 12, 2025.
Who Can Enroll
To participate, candidates must have at least completed elementary education and reside in the area where the courses are offered.
It is necessary to have basic personal documents at the time of enrollment. For those choosing Basic English II or III, a previous certificate issued by CELIN or an equivalent course with at least 40 hours of duration is required.
As these are in-person classes, it is important to have the availability to travel weekly to the chosen campus.
Selection Process Timeline
- Enrollment: September 1 to 11, 2025
- Announcement of Selected Candidates: September 12, 2025
- Registration: September 15, 2025
- Start of Classes: from September 15, 2025
- End of Classes: December 22, 2025.
How to Enroll
Enrollment is free and conducted exclusively online until September 11, 2025. Each course has its own registration link, available on the official IFSULDEMINAS portal.
In the end, participants who meet the required attendance and complete the class hours will receive a certificate valid throughout the national territory, an important differentiator for demonstrating knowledge in job interviews, exchanges, or competitions.
