Scientific Evidence Indicates Flood 5,000 Years Ago
Researchers from Istanbul Technical University, Agri Ibrahim Cecen University, and Andrews University (USA) conducted detailed geological analyses of the Durupinar Formation. The studies indicate that the site was covered by water about 3,500 to 5,000 years ago, a period that aligns with the biblical accounts of the universal flood.
The scientists collected 30 soil and rock samples, sending them for analysis. The results showed:
- Marine deposits in the region, suggesting that the site was once submerged.
- Clay residues and organic materials, which may indicate the presence of ancient structures.
- Traces of mollusks, reinforcing the theory of a great flood in the area.
If the existence of a prehistoric civilization in the region is confirmed, this could strengthen the theory that a real catastrophic event inspired the account of the flood in the Bible.
Controversies: Geologists Refute the Theory of Noah’s Ark
Despite the new discoveries, many geologists argue that the Durupinar Formation is merely a natural structure created by erosion and landslides.
Professor Lorence Collins from California State University published a study in 2016 stating that the formation is due to common geological processes. According to him:
- The structure was shaped by natural soil movements, and not by the presence of a vessel.
- The fossilization of wood would take millions of years, making it impossible for a structure just 5,000 years old to have turned to stone.
- The analysis of the sediments shows that the “ark” may be older than the flood deposits around it, suggesting that it wasn’t dragged by a flood.
Even with this evidence, proponents of the Noah’s Ark theory insist that more research is needed to reach a definitive conclusion.
