Vega Unit in São Francisco do Sul Expands Production Capacity and Brings New Technologies to Brazil, Creating 350 New Permanent Jobs at ArcelorMittal.
ArcelorMittal inaugurated today (13) the expansion of the Vega Unit in São Francisco do Sul, Santa Catarina, strengthening its operations in the flat steel sector with an investment of R$ 2 billion. The new factory was designed to meet growing demand and increase production capacity for coated and cold-rolled flat steels, from 1.6 million to 2.2 million tons per year.
This expansion is part of the CMC Project (Cold Mill Complex), which implemented a continuous galvanizing and annealing line, enabling more flexible and efficient production.
With this, ArcelorMittal aims not only to expand its product portfolio but also to strengthen its presence in the special steels market in Brazil. The new factory marks one of the company’s major investments in the country, which plans a total of R$ 25 billion between 2022 and 2028 for expansions, modernizations, and sustainable initiatives.

Magnelis Production
In addition to strengthening its automotive market presence, ArcelorMittal has brought the production of Magnelis to Brazil, an exclusive steel that offers high corrosion resistance.
According to Jorge Oliveira, CEO of ArcelorMittal Flat Steel Latin America, “this expansion project reflects the Group’s strategic decision to increase production in the country, develop technological and competitive steels, and add value to our portfolio.”
Magnelis is ideal for applications in solar energy projects, agriculture, and construction, as its coating of zinc, aluminum, and magnesium provides prolonged protection, even after cuts or perforations in the material.
The new ArcelorMittal factory in Santa Catarina has already generated 350 permanent jobs, raising the total direct jobs at the Vega Unit to 1,300. For Jorge Adelino, Vice President of Operations at ArcelorMittal Flat Steel Latin America, the investment positions the unit at a new competitive level, expanding the high-tech product mix and ensuring greater presence in the Brazilian industrial sector.
