The New Solar Plants, Lar do Sol and Casablanca, Elevate Atlas to the Top of Solar Generation in the Country.
SÃO PAULO, xx September 2023 – In a world hungry for clean energy sources, Atlas Renewable Energy scores a historic goal. The solar plants Lar do Sol and Casablanca, both located in Pirapora, Minas Gerais, are now fully operational, providing renewable energy to giants like Unipar and Anglo American. These majestic projects have an impressive capacity of nearly 600 MWp, projecting an annual generation of over 1.2 GW of green energy.
Lar do Sol: Illuminating the Industry
Unipar, a powerhouse in the production of chlorine and PVC in South America, now drinks from the renewable source of the Lar do Sol solar plant. Besides its sustainability goals, this partnership with Atlas, based on a 19-year PPA signed in 2021, aims to supply energy to Unipar in Cubatão. This grand move ensures the supply of chlorine, essential in water treatment for over 60 million Brazilians. Thanks to a loan from Banco do Nordeste do Brasil (BNB) of R$ 407 million, the project was able to be realized.
Casablanca: The Vanguard of Sustainable Mining
The 15-year alliance between Atlas and Anglo American aligns with the miner’s ecological vision. Casablanca, equipped with over 800,000 bifacial photovoltaic modules, stands out with an installed capacity of 359 MWp and a potential of 820 GWh/year. This plant not only electrifies Anglo American but also acts as a guardian of the environment, preventing the emission of 61,500 tons of CO² annually. And BID Invest recognized the potential of this endeavor, providing a loan of US$ 150 million in 2021.
