What Are Spaceplanes and Why Are They Important?
When we talk about “spaceplanes,” it’s normal to think of NASA’s Space Shuttle, which flew on 135 missions from 1981 to 2011. However, the Chinese spaceplane and its American counterpart, the X-37B, are smaller and unmanned. They are designed to be reusable, capable of being launched into space and returning to Earth like airplanes.
