A factory in Bahia produces the largest blades for wind turbines in the country, measuring 84 meters in length. Soon, the northeastern state will start producing blades with 120 meters, establishing a new world record for the largest blade of a wind turbine in Latin America.

The Secretary of Economic Development, Angelo Almeida, visited last Thursday (18), the manufacturing unit of Sinoma Blade in Camaçari, the largest manufacturer of blades used to generate wind energy in the world. According to the Operations Director, Pedro Santos, the Bahia factory currently produces 84-meter wind turbine blades, the largest manufactured in the country to date.

Sinoma Blade Factory in Bahia Will Produce 150 Wind Turbine Blades During the Year 2024

There are ambitious plans for the production of 90-meter wind turbine blades, and by the end of 2025, it is expected to start manufacturing 120-meter blades. Xue Li, the General Manager of the factory, participated in the technical visit. Angelo Almeida emphasized that the installation of the Sinoma factory in Bahia is the result of a mission led by Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues in Beijing, China, in April of last year.

A year after this mission, Angelo made this technical visit to personally evaluate the infrastructure of the unit. The establishment of this factory in the state of Bahia represents a significant milestone, especially due to the complexity of its production process.

According to the Operations Director, the factory in Bahia is currently producing the 15th blade and will manufacture a total of 150 wind turbine blades this year. The first blade will come out of the Bahia unit in October. The director thanked Secretary Angelo for the visit and the cordiality that has always been shown in the relationship between Sinoma and the government of the state of Bahia.

The company is pleased to be in Camaçari and to provide jobs and change the social landscape of the city. Sinoma is the first factory established outside of China, and ensuring its success is essential, so it is working very hard to make this a reality.

What Is the Largest Wind Turbine in the World?

The wind turbine blades produced in Bahia are the largest in Brazil. However, the largest wind turbine in the world, currently, is the MingYang Smart Energy (MySE) 16-260, which is located off the coast of Fujian Province, China, with a total diameter of 260 meters.

The turbine has been operating since July 2023 and has broken the previous record of the wind turbine built at the Zhangpu Liuao wind farm, located on the Liuao Peninsula, which has a diameter of 252 meters. In other words, the MySE 16-260 has 8 meters more than the previous turbine.

The motor and generator housed at the top of the 152-meter tower of the MySE 16-260 weigh an incredible 385 tons, and each of the three wind turbine blades measuring 123 meters adds another 54 tons, suspended on one side of the generator shaft.

With each complete rotation, the turbine sweeps about 50 thousand square meters of air (equivalent to seven football fields), with each rotation sending up to 34.2 kWh of energy to the Chinese power grid. Annually, the model is estimated to contribute around 66 GWh.

Brazil Leads Wind Energy in the Americas

Brazil, the United States, and Mexico stand out as leaders in wind energy production in the Americas, according to recent data from the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC). Overall, the Americas—North, South, and Central—accounted for 25% of the total global installed capacity of this energy in 2018.

According to GWEC, the total installed capacity of wind energy in the Americas now totals 135 GW – a 12% increase compared to 2017. The expectation is that the pursuit of this type of energy in the region will continue, and the organization has noted the addition of 60GW in new wind capacities between 2019 and 2023.

O Brasil não lidera nada. A China é dona de tudo q lidera alguma coisa por aqui.
