The Robust Investment Plan of Bahiagas Represents a Advance in the Natural Gas Infrastructure of Bahia, with Direct Impact on Job Creation, Income, and Regional Growth.
With a focus on economic growth and job creation in the interior of Bahia, Bahiagas — Bahia Gas Company — presented this Monday (05/12), in a meeting with the Secretariat of Labor, Employment, Income, and Sports (Setre), its ambitious investment plan for the coming years.
The goal is to bring natural gas to up to 66 municipalities in Bahia, with the construction of approximately 2,000 kilometers of gas pipelines by 2029. The expected investment exceeds R$ 1.38 billion, strengthening the state’s energy infrastructure and promoting professional training opportunities.
Strategic Expansion of the Natural Gas Network
The new phase of investments by Bahiagas includes ongoing projects, such as the 200 kilometers in Vitória da Conquista, in addition to new priority segments.
-
The rise in oil prices could ensure an extra revenue of R$ 100 billion for the Federal Government, indicates a recent economic study.
-
Naturgy begins an investment of R$ 1.6 million to expand the gas network in Niterói and benefit thousands of new residences and businesses.
-
A major turn in the Justice system suspends tax increases and directly impacts oil and gas companies in Brazil by affecting costs, contracts, and financial planning, leaving uncertain what could happen to the sector if these costs had increased.
-
Brava Energia begins drilling in Papa-Terra and Atlanta and could change the game by reducing costs in oil while increasing production and strengthening competitiveness in the offshore market.
One of the main projected routes will be about 375 kilometers, connecting Itagibá to Brumado, passing through Jequié and Maracás — regions with a strong presence of mining activity, which await the arrival of natural gas to increase their production capacity.
The completion of this segment is expected by 2028.
The company has also mapped 69 municipalities with high industrial potential and natural gas consumption, aiming to ensure the economic viability of investments and attract new enterprises to the interior.
Job Creation and Professional Training
In addition to the infrastructure, Bahiagas’ plan includes actions aimed at training the local workforce.
Furthermore, Setre and Bahiagas, with the support of SineBahia, will formalize a cooperation agreement to facilitate the offering of professional training courses targeted at the new demands that will accompany the natural gas expansion to the interior of the state.
“To give an idea, by 2029, with the planned investments of over 1.38 billion reais in the next five years, Bahiagas intends to reach 2,000 kilometers of gas pipelines. It is an important initiative, and our government has been working to ensure that all this investment also transforms into income generation for local communities and job opportunities for all these regions,” said Setre Secretary Augusto Vasconcelos.
Another highlight of the plan is the study for the creation of sustainable GNV corridors on the state’s main highways.
The proposal is to facilitate the refueling of heavy vehicles with natural gas, reducing logistics costs and carbon emissions.
Bahiagas is also evaluating sustainability initiatives, such as the production of biogas from organic waste.
This technology can significantly reduce the environmental impact caused by landfills, especially with the elimination of leachate in the soil.
The commercial viability of the project is under analysis.
Institutional Partnership and Integrated Planning
During the meeting with Setre, Victor Paredes, Manager of Business Planning at Bahiagas, reinforced the company’s commitment to developing the local workforce.
“We were here at Setre with the Secretary, presenting our multi-year investment plan, our master plan, and our strategic planning, and how this can also help in the growth of the Department of Labor,” he stated.
Secretary Augusto Vasconcelos also emphasized the fundamental role of Bahiagas in the Southwest Program, which has been bringing piped gas to one of the most dynamic regions of the Bahia economy.
For him, the expansion of the natural gas network is essential for the creation of new industrial hubs and for the sustainable development of Bahia.
