Volkswagen Announces Installation of Moura Batteries Factory in Its Industrial Complex in RJ for the Production of Brazil’s First Electric Truck!

In a move contrary to Ford’s, Volkswagen, the world’s largest vehicle manufacturer, is investing in the production of Brazil’s first electric truck.

The multinational Volkswagen Trucks and Buses announces the installation of a Moura Batteries factory in its industrial complex located in Resende (RJ). The battery supplier arrives with the mission to meet specific processes of the e-Delivery, Brazil’s first electric truck, starting this semester. The head of the multinational recently announced the termination of the production of gasoline and diesel combustion engines.

In addition to supplying a battery system, Moura will be responsible for the assembly, electrification of the vehicle, and battery cycle management, according to Auto Industria.

Still to be produced in series, the e-Delivery determined the integration of Moura into the production model of the Volkswagen Trucks and Buses factory in Resende (RJ), the Modular Consortium. The battery manufacturer, previously already a partner of the e-Consortium, a group of companies developing the business model for electrified cargo transport, also participates in the vehicle assembly process.

In the alliance, Moura continues to play the role it was already assigned to manage the entire battery cycle, but now also assumes the supply of the battery system, its installation in the truck structure, and startup, the moment when the vehicle is powered on for the first time. “We will have a transversal participation, from the beginning to the end of the battery,” summarizes Cristiane Assis, commercial manager of the Moura Group.

The process begins with the shipment of lithium batteries from CATL, another partner of the e-Consortium, to the Moura unit in Bom Jardim (PE). In a specific area, the manufacturer assembles the system with more than 30 components, including cables, sleepers, cradle, and integration of the BMS and electronic intelligence of the battery to then supply the system, up to the assembly line in Resende.
