Collision Between Bus and Truck Caused Overturning on SP-270
According to information gathered on site, the collision between the bus and the truck occurred on the SP-270 while both vehicles were traveling in lane 2 of the highway, which has a double lane in this section.
The bus hit the back of the truck, causing a loss of control and the overturning shortly after the impact.
The dynamics of the accident underscore the seriousness of the incident and explain the need for a complete closure of the eastbound lane.
Moreover, the position of the vehicles after the collision compromised both the lanes and the shoulder, making it impossible for other vehicles to pass safely at that moment.
For this reason, the authorities opted for the total closure of the highway as a preventive measure.
Total Closure of the Raposo Tavares Highway Caused Congestion
With the complete blockage of the lane and the shoulder heading east, traffic was completely interrupted for several hours.
As a consequence, a congestion estimated at approximately 6.6 kilometers formed, between kilometers 583 and 576 of the SP-270.
Meanwhile, the concessionaire responsible for the road organized a detour scheme. Teams advised drivers to use the device at km 580, with an exit to the municipality of Álvares Machado and alternative access to Presidente Prudente.
This measure aimed to reduce the impacts of the accident with victims in the interior of São Paulo, especially for cargo and intercity transport vehicles.
The lanes were cleared around 6:22 AM.
However, until the last update of the information, the shoulder remained closed to ensure safety and allow the completion of work at the site.
Number of Involved and Health Status of the Victims
In total, 37 people were involved in the accident on the Raposo Tavares Highway. Of this total, 32 bus occupants were unharmed and were released after initial evaluation.
On the other hand, three passengers sustained minor injuries, while one occupant had serious injuries and received specialized care.
The truck driver was unharmed, according to information provided by the teams that responded to the incident.
Nevertheless, all those involved underwent screening and medical follow-up, adhering to safety protocols in cases of bus and truck collisions on the SP-270.
On-Site Assistance and Action of Emergency Teams
Teams from the concessionaire managing the highway acted immediately to assist the victims, signal the stretch, and organize diverted traffic.
Ambulances and trained professionals provided first aid, ensuring a prompt response given the severity of the scene.
Additionally, technical expertise was summoned to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
The goal is to clarify factors such as speed, road conditions, and potential mechanical failures that may have contributed to the overturning in Álvares Machado.
Importance of Road Safety and Investigation of the Causes
Cases like this reinforce the need for heightened attention on São Paulo roads, especially during the early morning hours, a period when reduced visibility and driver fatigue can increase risks.
The technical inquiry should indicate whether there was human error or other determining elements for the accident with victims in the interior of São Paulo.
Meanwhile, traffic authorities emphasize the importance of adhering to traffic regulations, proper vehicle maintenance, and constant attention to the flow of the road.
The Raposo Tavares Highway is one of the main connections of the western São Paulo, and occurrences of this nature directly impact regional mobility and safety.
