Body of 9-Year-Old Boy Found and Death Toll Rises After Extreme Storm Hits the Region
The rain in Juiz de Fora turned streets into rivers, caused landslides, and solidified one of the largest recent tragedies in Juiz de Fora. The Fire Department confirmed the location of the body of a 9-year-old boy who had been missing since the storms that hit the city.
With the confirmation, the search efforts were officially called off in the municipality. The tragedy exposes the extent of the disaster caused by the intense rains that battered the Zona da Mata in recent days.
Extreme Storm and Record Rainfall Aggravate Situation
The recorded volumes are impressive. In just a few hours, the city faced rainfall levels considered exceptional, with totals exceeding historical averages for the month.

In addition to the human losses, over 8,500 people are homeless or displaced just in Juiz de Fora. Rescue teams have been working intensively to save residents trapped in buildings affected by landslides.
The tragedy in Zona da Mata mobilized state and federal forces, in addition to Civil Defense, which continues to monitor areas at risk of new landslides.
City Faces Reconstruction After Disaster
With the conclusion of the search for the last missing person, the city now enters a new phase: reconstruction and assistance to affected families.
Experts warn that extreme weather events have become more frequent, requiring better urban planning and prevention policies in vulnerable regions like Zona da Mata.
Meanwhile, residents are trying to resume their routine amid the structural damage and mourning caused by one of the most devastating rains in the recent history of Juiz de Fora.
