Under the terms of the memorandum signed with Governor Camilo Santana, Enegix will create the largest green hydrogen plant in the world, which will produce more than 600 thousand tons of green hydrogen per year from 3,4 GW of firm power – the maximum continuous energy production that can be obtained – from combined wind and solar projects.
The Australian company's Base One project in the North East will be in a strategic location for the production of green hydrogen with direct access to all major international markets via ocean freight.
An industrial area of 500 hectares was reserved in the Port of Pecém to allow the electrolysis process. The facility will be operated using renewable energy with zero emissions and will take advantage of the great renewable energy potential that Ceará has available, from onshore to offshore wind and solar energy, thus allowing the Base One project to be expanded to a power of up to 100 GW to meet global demand.
Thousands of jobs will be created in Ceará – Northeast
According to a company statement, Base One will create thousands of jobs during construction and employ hundreds of full-time operational staff to manage its facilities, with far-reaching positive social benefits for the local community as well as the state.
The new plant will have the potential to reduce annual CO2 emissions by 10 million tons per year and will become the world's largest carbon emission reduction project.
The expectation is that the Base One project will take 3 years to build. A Enegix signed an agreement with an international engineering and technical consulting firm to carry out a feasibility study and will soon begin the process of obtaining environmental and social licenses. Enegix is seeking partnerships with investors and is conducting a public equity round.
The Base One project in the Northeast also marks the debut of Enegix in the world market. Enegix Energy is registered in Singapore and Australia and will establish its corporate headquarters in the European country, Switzerland. The company was established with a vision to deploy and manage renewable energy grids powered by hydrogen, which is a key component in its strategy and will be used for storage, electricity distribution, transportation, fuel applications and also re-electrification plants.
