The program to support the production of green hydrogen developed by the BNDES will be responsible for guaranteeing the necessary financing, through lines of credit, for the construction and development of projects to generate this resource in the country.

Last Friday (01/07), the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) announced its newest financing program aimed at the the energy and fuels in Brazil. Thus, there will be an investment of R$ 300 million in credits for the development of projects that seek to boost the green hydrogen market in the country, as a way to boost this sector and expand the exploitation of the resource in the national territory.

Green hydrogen production projects may receive lines of credit to finance construction through a program created by BNDES

Aiming at the growth of national investments in the green hydrogen segment with the arrival of foreign companies, the BNDES announced a new financing program aimed at this sector. In this way, companies and entrepreneurs will be able to request lines of credit with the bank for the development of resource production projects, with investment aimed at acquiring equipment, building factories and other stages of the process.

For this, the BNDES will use the resources of the well-known Climate Fund, responsible for supporting the renewable energy segment in the national territory. The financing of each project can count on a total of R$ 300 million in credits offered by the BNDES to the company.

In this way, the bank intends to expand its financing lines to also support large-scale green hydrogen production projects for export. The resource has been increasingly used in the renewables segment and Brazil has a strong potential for using hydrogen generation.

Thus, BNDES Infrastructure Credit Granting director, Solange Vieira, commented that this program will serve to give the green hydrogen market a new growth perspective in Brazil, with the expansion in the development of projects in the segment.

In addition, she highlighted: “We are already working to make new solutions feasible, including support for low-carbon hydrogen export plants and studying the possibility of financing costs in foreign currency to enable the implementation of large plants in the country, capable of exporting hydrogen. fuel".

In addition to the BNDES project financing program, the green hydrogen market in Brazil continues to attract new investments from the Federal Government

With the energy transition becoming an increasingly urgent and relevant agenda on the national scene, the search for investments in the renewable energy is growing in the country. Thus, it would not be different with green hydrogen, which is the bet for the sector and has been getting a strong look from the Brazilian government in recent months, not only with the BNDES financing program, but with other initiatives to stimulate the development of projects in the country.

Among them is the program launched by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) during the month of June this year, which opened a public call for R$ 50 million to encourage research in the area of sustainable fuels such as biokerosene, green hydrogen and biomethane in the country. The resources will be invested through the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (FNDCT) and the MCTI left the process open to companies of all sizes, guaranteeing more possibilities in the sustainable fuel market.

Thus, the projects will be able to receive from R$ 1 million to R$ 7,5 million for the initial development of the resource production enterprise in the country. In this way, the Federal Government continues to seek to take advantage of the country's strong potential in the field of renewables by encouraging the segment.
