Contributing to sustainability, the BNDES intends to finance R$ 1,62 billion for the installation of ten wind power plants in Pernambuco and Piauí, with scheduled dates for operation next year

The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) announced this Thursday (15) that it will support the installation of ten wind power plants that will have an installed capacity of 409,20 MW in Piauí and Pernambuco. The project will generate enough sustainable energy to supply 800 homes and promises to generate more than XNUMX new jobs.

More than a thousand jobs will be created in Piauí and Pernambuco

The plants will generate over a thousand new jobs, mainly for the local population. The new BNDES financing is part of the Wind Complexes Ventos do Piauí II and III, in the municipalities of Betânia, Curral Novo and Paulistana, in Piauí and Araripina and Ouricuri in Pernambuco.

The BNDES financing will be granted to ten special purpose companies (SPEs) belonging to VTRM Energia Participações. The financed amount will be in the amount of R$ 1,62 billion and the forecast is that the ten wind power plants will start operating next year.

Each of the plants will be connected to the National Interconnected System (SIN) through a transmission line to the Curral Novo do Piauí II substation, which is already in operation.

Energy Superintendent of BNDES speaks

For Carla Primavera, superintendent of Energy at the BNDES, support for the expansion of renewable energies in Brazil, such as wind energy, continues to be a good strategy for the bank, allowing for greater development of the free energy market and enabling asset investors to renewables establish commercial partnerships with consumers linked to the ESG agenda.

The resources financed in Pernambuco and Piauí by the BNDES will be used primarily in the purchase of wind energy turbines in Brazil. Therefore, the bank encourages the development of the supply chain for this equipment in the country. The remaining project expenses involve civil works, medium voltage power grid, substation construction, connection bay and transmission lines.

Expansion of 72% of installed capacity

According to Carlos Guerra, CFO of Votorantim Energia, the wind energy complexes Ventos do Piauí II and III are equivalent to a 72% expansion of the company's installed capacity in the region.

According to him, alongside the Ventos do Araripe III and Ventos do Piauí I wind farms, already in operation, the projects will form part of the largest wind generation cluster in the country, contributing to the development of the local economy by promoting employment and income in the municipalities. where the company is located.

BNDES points out that more than 600 wind energy parks have already been installed in Brazil, with a total of 15,4 GW of installed capacity. Thus, the energy generated by strong winds came to occupy the second place in relevance in the Brazilian electricity matrix.
