New Concession Contract Redefines The Future Of BR-101 With R$ 10.18 Billion In Investments, Modernization Works, More Safety And Reduction In Travel Time.

The BR-101 in the stretch between Niterói and Espírito Santo enters a new phase with the concession contract valued at R$ 10.18 billion, signed after the auction held on November 11. Coordinated by the Ministry of Transport, the plan provides for duplication of lanes, expansion of access and adoption of intelligent monitoring systems, in a package of works that should transform the main coastal highway of the state of Rio de Janeiro.

The new concession model, valid for 22 years, promises more traffic flow, reduction of accidents and greater comfort for drivers and passengers. BR-101 is the main integration corridor between the Fluminense coastline, the Lagos Region and the oil hub of the Campos Basin, sustaining the flow of cargo, tourism, and regional development.

R$ 10 Billion To Modernize BR-101

The billion-dollar investment is aimed at duplication of lanes, creation of marginal roads, and installation of overpasses, bus stops, and new access devices.

Strategic Role In The Fluminense Economy

The BR-101 plays a central role in the flow of goods between the ports of Fluminense and the Southeast of Brazil, in addition to connecting industrial and tourist centers.

The corridor is also vital for the transportation of supplies from the Campos Basin, reinforcing the oil and gas chain and stimulating logistical investments in the northern state.

With the planned improvements, the highway is expected to become more competitive for heavy cargo transport, reducing operational costs and increasing the efficiency of commercial routes.

The logistical gain should reflect in the final price of products and in the expansion of regional businesses.

The works promise fewer traffic jams, more safety, and travel times up to 30% faster during peak hours.
