According to International Agency, Brazil Ranked 16th After Closing 2019 with R$ 24.1 Billion in Private Investments

Brazil has joined the exclusive global group of the top 20 in photovoltaic solar energy. According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Brazil is the 16th country in installed capacity in operation worldwide. The achievement was celebrated by the Brazilian Solar Photovoltaic Energy Association (ABSOLAR). The survey takes into account the sum of large centralized plants and small distributed systems in homes, businesses, industries, rural properties, and the public sector.

Between the end of 2018 and the end of 2019, Brazil advanced 5 positions and reached a total of 4,533 MW.

In 2019 alone, 2,120 megawatts (MW) were installed, driven by the growth of distributed generation, which installed 1,470 MW, followed by 650 MW of centralized generation.

Investments in the Solar Energy Sector

ABSOLAR reported R$ 10.7 billion in accumulated private investments in photovoltaic solar energy in 2019.

The sector also takes pride in having created over 134,000 jobs accumulated since 2012, with more than 63,000 jobs in just 2019.

China, followed by Japan, the United States, and Germany are the leading countries in the ranking according to the global entity.

To put Brazil’s achievement into perspective, in 2017, the country was in 27th position. In 2018, it jumped to 21st, and now it has reached 16th place.

If we consider the other main renewable sources (hydropower, wind, and biomass), Brazil is already among the top 10 in the world.

According to Ronaldo Koloszuk, president of ABSOLAR’s Board of Directors, Brazil should celebrate this achievement and reminds us that in solar energy, the country has yet to reach the TOP 10 in the world, but has every capability to get there and emphasizes the ocean of opportunities for those who want to work and invest in this market.
