The ship project with classification, review and approval based on 3D models proves the successful use of technology in the segment. Companies Damen Engineering, Bureau Veritas and NAPA are enjoying the benefits of software in their business.
The adoption of new technologies and operations modernization solutions are increasingly present in the sector maritime. The company Damen Engineering has announced the completion of its first ship design to be created, reviewed and approved using only 3D models, replacing previous 2D models. The initiative is being carried out with the support of the companies Bureau Veritas and NAPA, which take advantage of the benefits of technology to ensure more assertiveness in projects.
Use of 3D models in the ship design process marks advances in the maritime sector
The modernization of processes, amid the development of new artificial intelligence technologies, is becoming increasingly present in all sectors of international industry.
Now, it's the turn of the marine engineering sector to take advantage of the benefits of the moment to boost the quality and speed of its projects.
The company Damen Engineering has already been immersed in the trend and announced the conclusion of its first ship project created, reviewed and approved only using 3D models.
The initiative takes place in collaboration with the classification society Bureau Veritas (BV) and the global provider of marine software NAPA, thus ensuring even more quality in the processes by uniting the expertise of both companies.
The 2.500 m³ dredge concept is the first Damen vessel to receive BV certification using 3D model based classification (3D MBA).
This process allows companies to evaluate and approve ship designs based only on 3D models, as opposed to the 2D models currently used.
Damen Engineering has confirmed that it is already applying the technology to other ventures, following the success of the first ship project.
These 3D model-based designs and approvals are supported by NAPA's state-of-the-art technology, which allows Damen and BV to work collaboratively throughout the design and review process.
The main benefits of using 3D models in projects, according to Damen Engineering, NAPA and Bureau Veritas, are the optimization of time and the guarantee of better communication of processes.
In addition, the 3D models also eliminate a huge potential source of error, as the company no longer needs to translate the 3D models it uses to design vessels into 2D drawings.
In this way, the development of a new ship project becomes even more assertive and faster amid the high demand of the international market.
