V-Trace facilitates a complete view of the supply chain from socio-environmental aspects and meets the requirements of the main markets for Brazilian exports, such as Europe and Asia
Bureau Veritas, a global leader in Testing, Inspection and Certification (TIC), launches V-Trace, a verified digital traceability solution for monitoring and controlling supply chains. Through the tool, developed together with Optel, a global reference in traceability technology, the Group offers greater visibility and transparency regarding the origin of inputs, the quality and conformity of the merchandise and the socio-environmental impact of each stage of the production process, contributing to strengthen the reputation of Brazilian producers. According to the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), in the first half of 2023 alone, the country exported US$23 billion in products to the European Union, which has strict guidelines on commodity imports, especially in relation to control of deforestation and protection of human rights.

“V-Trace combines our expertise in inspections and certifications with our operations in more than 140 countries to offer a complete and up-to-date solution regarding regulations in different markets. As society increases the level of demand on companies' socio-environmental responsibility, new regulations and criteria for the production and marketing of inputs emerge. Verified traceability adds value to products and increases market confidence, in addition to protecting the brand and reducing the risk related to trade barriers”, explains Andressa Lisboa, Director of Certification and Auditing at Bureau Veritas.
The joint solution from Bureau Veritas and Optel enables integrated mapping of companies' supply chains so that they can monitor all aspects and protect themselves from possible negative impacts associated with their suppliers. The data is compiled on a digital platform, in a practical and modular way to facilitate decision-making and the preparation of traceability reports. All information is verified by Group experts, contributing to the company's credibility in the market and obtaining a competitive advantage in the export sector. For end consumers, details about origin, quality and sustainability are available via QR Code printed on packaging.
In 2023, the volume of Brazilian exports is expected to grow 5,4%, after having already increased 4,4% in 2022, according to a report from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV). Lisbon highlights that, in addition to complying with national legislation and pressure from the internal market for better socio-environmental and governance practices, exporters need to double their attention to the demands of destination countries. The European Parliament, for example, enacted a law that prevents the entry of commodities into European Union countries that have been produced in deforested, degraded areas or as a result of work that violates human rights and those of indigenous peoples. Germany requires companies with more than 3 employees to implement supplier risk management systems and, from April 2024, the submission of compliance reports will be mandatory. Although it does not have defined legislation, China, another large importer of Brazilian inputs, has been intensifying policies to encourage socio-environmental traceability in supply chains.
