About BYD Brazil

BYD Brazil, part of the Chinese multinational BYD, established itself in Brazil in 2015 and has been expanding its operations in the country since then. BYD, short for “Build Your Dreams”, is a cutting-edge technology company that operates in various sectors, including the production of electric vehicles, rail transit, new energies, and electronics. BYD has industrial parks in several regions, including China, the United States, Canada, Japan, Brazil, Hungary, and India.

In Brazil, BYD inaugurated its first 100% electric bus assembly plant in Campinas, São Paulo, in 2015. Subsequently, in 2017, it opened a second plant in the same city to produce photovoltaic modules, and in 2020, it began operating a third factory in Manaus to produce lithium iron phosphate batteries (LiFePO4). Additionally, BYD is responsible for two SkyRail projects (monorail) in Brazil, located in Salvador and São Paulo.

In July 2023, BYD announced an investment of over R$ 3 billion to establish an industrial complex in Camaçari, Bahia, which will consist of three production units. These units will focus on manufacturing chassis for electric buses and trucks, hybrid and electric cars, and processing lithium and iron phosphate. This project aims to introduce and accelerate electromobility in Brazil, combating climate change and improving the quality of life of the population. Operations are expected to start in the second half of 2024, and it is anticipated that over 5,000 jobs will be created in the coming years.
