BYD’s Move and Fiat’s Reaction Reshape the Compact Pickup Market in Brazil, in a Scenario That Combines Domestic Production, Direct Sales, and Growing Pressure on One of the Most Competitive Segments of the Automotive Sector.
The competition for compact pickups in Brazil has entered a new phase with BYD’s advancement in launching a model aimed at the same segment as the Fiat Strada.
At the same time, the Italian automaker expanded the offerings of the 2026 line, primarily in direct sales to rural producers and micro-entrepreneurs.
In 2025, the Strada ended the year as the best-selling vehicle in the country, with 142,891 registrations.

BYD Prepares Compact Pickup to Compete with the Fiat Strada
BYD’s move targets one of the highest volume segments in the Brazilian market.
Information published by Autoesporte magazine and reproduced by other outlets indicates that the Chinese manufacturer is developing a brand new compact pickup to compete with the Strada.
The launch is expected in 2027, with domestic production in Camaçari, Bahia.
According to Alexandre Baldy, Senior Vice President of BYD in Brazil, the brand will continue to bet on electrified vehicles.
In this context, the future rival of the Strada is expected to use a hybrid configuration based on the 1.5 DM-i system.
The expectation reported by industry outlets is that this system will be adapted to accept ethanol in the Brazilian market.
So far, the company has not released official data on power, payload capacity, dimensions, or price range for the future pickup.
There is also no complete public detailing of the development timeline for the model.
What is known for now is that BYD sees entry into the segment as part of its expansion strategy in the country.
Fiat Strada Maintains Leadership and Expands Discounts in Direct Sales
This advance occurs in a segment where Fiat holds a consolidated position.
The Strada has led the Brazilian market since 2021 and ended 2025 back at the top of national registrations.
For BYD, entering this category means competing in a niche with strong commercial presence and industrial relevance.
While the new competitor is being prepared for the upcoming years, Fiat reinforces its performance with price reductions on the 2026 Strada versions.
In offers directed at rural producers and micro-entrepreneurs, the Strada Endurance Cabine Plus 1.3 Flex was announced for R$ 87,385, below the R$ 113,490 on the price list.

The difference in this case is R$ 26,105.
In the same sales modality, the Strada Freedom Cabine Plus 1.3 Flex 2026 is now offered for R$ 92,775, compared to R$ 120,490 at the full price.
The discount reaches R$ 27,715.
Together, the discounts on the two versions total R$ 53,820, provided that the buyer meets the criteria required for this type of transaction.
Fiat Discounts Vary According to the Buyer’s Profile
The conditions show that the substantial reduction is concentrated on specific buyer profiles.
On Fiat’s own direct sales pages, offers are linked to certain target audiences and may be associated with validity periods.
This means that promotional prices do not automatically apply to every consumer interested in the pickup.
In retail for individuals, the scenario is different.
There are price reduction offers, but generally linked to specific units and local availability.
One of the examples cited in the market involves the Strada Volcano Cabine Dupla 1.3 Flex 2026, advertised by a dealership in São Bernardo do Campo for R$ 124,990, below the R$ 139,980 originally reported.
In this case, the discount is R$ 14,990.
This type of offer, however, does not correspond to a generalized table reduction across the entire network.
It is a condition associated with a specific stock of the dealership.
Therefore, the difference between direct sales prices and offers for individuals helps explain how Fiat’s commercial strategy varies according to the buyer’s profile.
Compact Pickup Market Enters a New Phase in Brazil
In direct sales, the focus typically falls on clients who use the vehicle as a work tool or for economic activity.
In contrast, promotions aimed at end consumers are influenced by factors such as available units, ready delivery, and local commercial policy.
Thus, the automaker preserves the competitiveness of the Strada without necessarily altering the positioning of the entire line.
The entry of BYD adds a new component to this scenario by introducing a electrified compact pickup, reportedly adapted for ethanol use.
If the project is confirmed as reported, competition will no longer be concentrated solely on price, conventional engines, and commercial reach.
On the other hand, Fiat remains supported by factors that have already sustained the Strada’s presence in the Brazilian market, such as production scale, dealer network, and recent sales history.
Currently, the landscape includes two distinct fronts: on one side, the preparation of a new competitor for the upcoming years; on the other, the adoption of aggressive commercial conditions to preserve market share in the present.
At this stage, available data indicates that the competition began even before the new pickup arrives at dealerships.
BYD is working on developing its model for an already established segment, while Fiat is operating with offers directed at specific audiences to keep the Strada competitive in the Brazilian market.

Todas as montadoras operam assim. Muito papo ****.
