With a promise to generate almost 1 million jobs globally, BYD solidifies its position at the top of the automotive industry, surpassing giants like Honda, Nissan, and Volvo and is now considered the largest car manufacturer in the world. With a focus on electric vehicles and sustainable energy, the Chinese manufacturer has been standing out for its innovation, aggressive expansion, and growth in strategic markets like Europe and Latin America.

BYD, the Chinese manufacturer focused on electric and hybrid vehicles, continues its accelerated expansion, solidifying its position as a global leader in the automotive sector. The multinational recently announced the creation of 900,000 jobs around the world, with a significant part of this number — 110,000 professionals — dedicated solely to research and development (R&D). This massive investment in innovation and technology has propelled BYD to surpass major competitors like Honda, Nissan, and Volvo, becoming not only the largest car manufacturer in the world but also the largest employer in the automotive sector, with a focus on sustainability and electrification.

This significant increase in the workforce is part of BYD’s strategy to lead the electric vehicle market, offering innovations that promise greater autonomy and affordable prices. The growth and job creation have placed the Chinese brand ahead of major names like Honda and Nissan, in the second quarter of 2024, with a total of 980,000 vehicles sold, representing a 40% increase compared to the same period last year.

The company, which is already the seventh largest car manufacturer in the world, continues to invest in research to enhance technologies in areas like batteries and smart driving, reinforcing its role in transforming the automotive sector.

Li Yunfei, general manager of branding and public relations at BYD, shared on his social media that the company filled 900,608 jobs by the end of August, highlighting the rapid growth of the company. BYD, the largest car manufacturer in the world, also stands out as one of the largest employers in China, surpassing over 5,300 companies listed on Chinese stock exchanges.

Other Manufacturers Suffer From BYD Pressure In The Automotive Market

While BYD becomes the largest car manufacturer in the world, other manufacturers are facing difficulties. Companies like Volkswagen and General Motors have reduced their number of employees in China, citing intensified competition and a price war in the electric vehicle segment.

In contrast, BYD continues to expand its operations, opening factories and generating jobs in markets like Turkey, Mexico, Brazil, and Pakistan, strengthening its global presence.

In Brazil, the Chinese brand is already one of the leaders in the electric vehicle market, with affordable models like Dolphin and Dolphin Mini among the best sellers. With new launches for 2025, BYD is betting on technologies like LiDAR and autonomous driving, aiming to meet the growing demand for more efficient and connected vehicles.

In addition to electric cars, BYD is also diversifying its product line, entering new segments like pickups and luxury SUVs. The company continues to reinforce its local production in strategic countries, aiming to increase its sales abroad and strengthen its position in the international market.

BYD Increases Investments In Brazil

The growing workforce dedicated to R&D is seen as a crucial competitive advantage for the brand, especially at a time when technological innovation has become the main differentiator in the automotive market.

The company is already the second-largest manufacturer of batteries for electric vehicles, and its ongoing investment in research aims to maintain its leadership in areas like autonomy and energy efficiency.

With new sales records being achieved consecutively, the largest car manufacturer in the world continues its growth trajectory, while its competitors struggle to adapt to the rapid changes in the electric car market.

The strategy of focusing on advanced technologies and expanding global production appears to be securing BYD an important advantage in an increasingly competitive sector. It is worth mentioning that, here, the brand announced it will once again increase its investment, specifically in Bahia, to a total of around R$ 6.5 billion.
