Country Struggles with Lack of Skilled Professionals
Immigration specialist and partner at Canada Intercambio, Ed Santos, points out that the job market in Canada suffers from a lack of skilled professionals. Therefore, the country needs immigrants to fill the open job positions, which is a great opportunity for Brazilians. Additionally, Canada has one of the lowest birth rates in the world and one of the oldest populations, with 18% of people aged 65 or older.

Common Questions from Brazilians Who Want to Live in Canada
What visa is required for Brazilians who wish to work and study in Canada?
If a Brazilian only wants to visit the country, they will not be able to work and will need a tourist visa or to have a U.S. visa and obtain an electronic travel authorization. Moreover, if the person goes to study, they may work part-time or full-time during vacations. In the case of couples, when one studies, the other can obtain a work visa to work full-time. When the visa is for work, the company will be responsible for paying for the process. A person cannot apply for a work visa, only the hiring company can.
What is necessary to be able to work and study in Canada?
This will depend on the province and the institution where the person wants to study, but basically, it is necessary to have a high school diploma and prove financial independence for studies. For a work visa, it is not necessary to prove financial independence or language proficiency, as this is all taken care of by the hiring company. The only requirement is to meet the company’s needs, and the company must prove that no Canadian or permanent resident possesses the technical skills to fill the open qualified job position.
Is it necessary to speak English or French?
The language can help; however, one can learn it either in Brazil or in Canada. In terms of language, proof of proficiency is not always required.
Are there jobs available for everyone? Where are the job openings?
Canada has always sought young people to fill its workforce to keep its economy running. However, due to the shortage of skilled professionals, seniors are being given more opportunities and with interesting salaries. A new development is the opening of job vacancies for women aged 55 or older and men up to 54 years old.
Among the provinces with the highest salaries are New Brunswick, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and Vancouver. The main job vacancies offered are related to sales, health, information technology, marketing, food, construction, logistics, hospitality, and agriculture.
