Stellantis, Owner Of Fiat, Expanded Its Partnership With Archer Aviation To Start Producing New “Air Taxi”
Stellantis, a global leading automaker and owner of Fiat, announced that it plans to begin production of an electric aircraft to serve as an “air taxi” in 2024. Last Wednesday, during CES 2023, the company revealed that it will expand its partnership with Archer Aviation to begin producing flying cars. The American partner is precisely responsible for marketing electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft.
Flying Cars Will Become Common In The Near Future
Flying cars are no longer just fiction and have already become a reality for over a year. Renault developed its prototype of this type of vehicle last year, Toyota filed a patent, and Tesla’s rival manufacturer has even made its first public flight in Dubai. This time, it was Stellantis, owner of Fiat, announcing the future construction of its own electric aircraft that, according to the automaker, will serve as an air taxi.
Technical Details About The Flying Taxi To Be Produced By The Owner Of Fiat
The flying car will be called Midnight and is designed to carry more than 450 kg. Thus, it can transport up to four passengers and a pilot with their respective luggage. Powered by six independent batteries, each supporting a pair of electric motors, the vehicle has independent energization to ensure that the aircraft can complete a flight safely in case an entire battery fails.

The announced range of the flying taxi is 160 km, but the manufacturer promises short-distance trips, that is, something between 30 km and 80 km. The charging time is estimated at approximately 10 minutes between each journey and the maximum speed is 240 km/h. In terms of safety, the companies reported that the vehicle will have four flight control computers and several sensors.
