New Maritime Route Linking Ceará to Asia Boosts Brazilian Exports, Highlighting Beef, and Already Moves More Than 32 Thousand Containers in Seven Months, Reinforcing the Competitiveness of the Port of Pecém in the International Scenario.
The creation of a new maritime route between the Port of Pecém, in Ceará, and countries in Asia has been boosting Brazilian exports, especially of beef.
In just seven months of operation, the logistics corridor recorded a 48% increase in cargo volume and moved 32,371 containers (TEUs), establishing itself as a strategic alternative for foreign trade.
Connection with Major Asian Ports
The route, inaugurated in January and operated by APM Terminals in partnership with MSC, connects the Ceará terminal to some of the main ports on the Asian continent.

Among them are Mundra in India, Singapore, as well as the Chinese ports of Yantian (Shenzhen), Ningbo, Shanghai, and Qingdao, along with Busan in South Korea.
This network strengthens Pecém’s position as a logistics hub, increasing its relevance not only for exporters of agricultural and mineral commodities but also for companies in the animal protein sector.
According to APM Terminals, the route has been utilized by different types of cargo and has the potential to grow even further.

First Shipments of Beef
In July, the route gained additional importance by recording the first shipments of beef originating from the Ceará terminal.
The operation was carried out by Minerva Foods, destined for Shanghai, marking the entry of animal protein into the export agenda via Pecém.
This movement reinforces the company’s strategy to diversify routes and expand presence in high-demand markets.
The arrival of beef on the new route signals an expansion of the export matrix of the Northeast.
For port operators, this type of cargo is considered strategic as it increases the regularity of the flow and attracts other segments linked to agribusiness.
Impacts on Competitiveness in Ceará
The strengthening of Pecém enhances Ceará’s competitiveness against major ports in the Southeast and South, historically the main exit points for Brazilian cargoes.
According to André Gonzaga, operations manager at APM Terminals, the direct connection to Asia reduces costs and transport time, an important differential for supply chains that require agility, such as animal protein and cotton.
Daniel Rose, president of APM Terminals Suape and Pecém, highlighted that the expectation is to attract new types of cargoes for both export and import.
According to him, the operation has the potential to diversify the logistics profile of the region and consolidate the Ceará terminal as a gateway for international trade.
Relevance for Agribusiness
The expansion of this route coincides with a moment of increased global demand for Brazilian beef.
China remains the largest buyer and accounts for a significant share of national exports.
The use of new logistics corridors helps meet this demand more efficiently, avoiding bottlenecks in overloaded ports and creating more competitive alternatives.
In addition to beef, other products are expected to gain space in this flow, such as cotton, fruits, and mining derivatives.
The local production sector believes that direct access to Asia via Pecém could attract new investments to the region, strengthening existing chains and encouraging the opening of new markets.

Growth Prospects
The trend is that cargo volume will continue to rise in the coming months.
The movement of more than 32 thousand containers in just seven months already demonstrates exporters’ adherence to the new corridor.
Operators expect to gradually expand the diversity of goods and consolidate the route as a permanent, not just supplementary, alternative to major Brazilian ports.
With the progress of this operation, Pecém is taking on an increasingly relevant role in Brazilian foreign trade, especially in sectors that depend on agile and competitive transportation to remain in demanding markets like Asia.
In light of this scenario, the question that arises is: to what extent could the consolidation of this route transform Ceará into a strategic hub for Brazilian international trade?
