Have You Ever Imagined Driving An Electric Car Without The Need For A Driver’s License? This Is The Proposal From Breda, Which Launched A Solar Powered Electric Car With A Range Of 100 Km In The Automotive Market.

A small Dutch company called Breda is about to revolutionize the automotive market with its innovative solar-powered electric car that does not require a driver’s license to operate. In 2022, Breda announced the arrival of the necessary solar panels for the construction of the vehicle. The first models are scheduled to be completed in September and will be available in the automotive market later this year. This initiative promises to change the way we understand sustainable mobility by combining energy efficiency with accessibility.

The electric car, named Squad, is a compact model that measures 2 m x 1.2 m x 1.6 m. The vehicle, which does not require a driver’s license, has seating for only two people and is priced at approximately €5,750 (R$ 35 thousand direct conversion and without considering Brazilian taxes). The model is produced entirely from recyclable materials and stands out for its solar panel that can provide a range of 100 km on a full day’s charge.

The average trip for a person in Europe is approximately 12 km, according to the car manufacturer’s claims. Thus, the vehicle, which will hit the automotive market next year, will be able to drive itself without the need for charging from the electrical grid.

However, for it to function on unfavorable days for solar energy, the electric car has batteries and will also have the option to be charged by a 220V outlet.

Solar Cars That Do Not Require A Driver’s License Are Now Available For Pre-Order

The solar cars from the Dutch company Squad Mobility, specifically the SQUAD Solar City Car model, are already available for pre-order and are expected to hit the market in 2024.

This compact and sustainable vehicle is designed to complement urban mobility, offering an accessible and efficient solution that uses solar energy to recharge its batteries. The solar panels on the roof of the car provide an additional range of up to 20 km on sunny days, while the interchangeable batteries allow for a total range of up to 100 km.

Squad Mobility, founded by former employees of Lightyear, aims to make solar mobility accessible to everyone, with prices starting around €6,250. This vehicle can be driven by individuals aged 16 and over in several EU countries, without the need for a full driver’s license. The company plans to expand its operations and customize offerings for vehicle-sharing platforms.

“A Solar Car For Everyone”

One of the slogans of the electric car is “a solar car for everyone,” considering that, despite being a vehicle, it does not require a driver’s license or helmet to be used.

Its doors are removable and the body has been created for increased driver safety in case of an accident. The solar-powered electric car can reach a maximum speed of 45 km/h, which is sufficient for everyday tasks such as going to the market or to work.

Company CEO Speaks Out

According to Robert Hoevers, CEO of the company, it is complicated to compete in the automotive market with companies like Mercedes, for example, as his company is a startup.

He states that their light electric vehicle sector is still in the development process and there are no major international players. However, there is enormous demand for this type of solution, especially in urban areas.

Although Breda is Dutch, it uses materials from various places around the world. The solar panels are from China, the batteries are from Korea, and the body is from Poland. Hoevers states that there is interest from various countries in Europe, India, the USA, and perhaps even Brazil in the electric car, and he hopes that after its arrival in the automotive market, he can form partnerships to bring the Squad to regions like Asia.
