The Partnership for the Construction of Substations at the Serra do Tigre Wind Complex Was Announced by Grid Solutions, GE’s Energy Business Unit
Grid Solutions, GE’s energy business unit, announced a strategic partnership with Casa dos Ventos, a Brazilian renewable energy company, for the construction of two 500 kV Air Insulated Substations (AIS) at the Serra do Tigre Wind Complex, located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. According to Petronotícias, this project marks another significant step in the country’s energy transition, driven by renewable sources and Grid Solutions’ expertise in substations.
The Investment Project at the Serra do Tigre Wind Complex
The contract signed between Grid Solutions and Casa dos Ventos provides for the construction of the two air insulated substations and also a connection bay, which will be installed at the Santa Luzia substation in Paraíba. With a total capacity of 1 GW, the substations will have the capacity to accommodate even more energy generation in the Northeast, a region highly favorable for the installation of renewable energies.
The Serra do Tigre Wind Complex will have an installed capacity of 756 MW, coming from 168 wind turbines, and positions itself as one of the main clean energy projects in the region. Rio Grande do Norte, the state where the complex will be built, already produces nearly 8 GW of wind energy annually, being a leader in this energy source in Brazil.

Grid Solutions and Its Experience in Power Substations
Grid Solutions, a subsidiary of GE Vernova, has extensive experience in substation projects in Brazil. Currently, 26% of all Brazilian wind farms of 230 kV and 500 kV are connected to the grid through its technology. The partnership with Casa dos Ventos is the sixth collaboration since 2013, demonstrating Grid Solutions’ competence and leadership in EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) projects in the renewable energy sector in the country.
Benefits for the Serra do Tigre Wind Complex Region and for the Environment
The Serra do Tigre Wind Complex initiative brings numerous benefits to the Northeast region and to the environment. In addition to providing a clean and renewable energy source for the population, the project boosts the local economy and contributes to the reduction of pollutant gas emissions. With the growing demand for wind energy, the Northeast region has the potential to produce at least 93 GW of additional clean energy.
The partnership between Grid Solutions and Casa dos Ventos at the Serra do Tigre Wind Complex is an important milestone in Brazil’s energy transition. With the construction of the air insulated substations, the capacity for renewable energy generation in the region will be expanded, further promoting the use of clean and sustainable sources in the country. The initiative highlights the commitment of the companies to promote a greener and more promising future for the energy sector in Brazil.
